Hi,

I assumed you have installed both Win 2000 and Win XP on the same partition C:/ "dual boot". If you have installed XP on a separate partition then is a lot easier eg Win 2000 on C: and XP on D:

Not sure you need to explain more. Anyway you are able to delete windows 2000 root folder located on C:/winnt and gain wasted space secondly you will need to edit your boot.ini file and remove Windows 2000 entry.

Please please backup your data before attempting to perform this operation.

By the way I offer remote support assistance easy as 123

Personally I would,

Go to Control Panel.
Pick Administrative Options
Choose Computer Management
Then Pick Disk Management

Now choose which partition that holds Windows 2000, and right click - format.

Then I would download a partition resize application like http://www.ranish.com/part/ (Well I use pqmagic but this one is free)

This will regain the space to enlarge your C: partition for all the space available on the drive.

Job Done.

Warning: Be careful with the word format. Do you know if this guy has win 2000 and XP installed on the same drive?

Hi Dave,

It really depends on where win 2000 is installed on your PC. Once you know where it is you can then take the appropriate steps to remove it. All the guys are right in one way or another but it just depends on what scenario you are in. When you say they are both on your C drive, can you say where?

Can you see the folder in My Computer/Windows Explorer, or when you boot up is Windows 2000 offered as well as XP (as bg has already said i.e. dual boot) to load?

After I took up so much of Anthony's time today feel free to give me a call and I'll help you best I can FOC!!!

Cheers,

Baz

Hi Baz,

Yes I do know, because Windows 2000 and XP must be on seperate partitions, even if they're on the same physical drive. So formatting the Windows 2000 partition will not effect the other partition containing Windows XP.

Martin

Yes I do say be careful with format because if windows 2000 is on C drive that hold the boot.ini and master boot record (mbr), Windows XP on drive D:

He cannot boot Windows XP after formatting C: because the boot.ini has been deleted.

He will need to boot to recovery console to fix boot, fix mbr using Win XP CD.

Please Note: NTLDR allows the user to choose which operating system to boot from at the menu; for NT and NT-based operating systems, it also allows the user to pass preconfigured options to the kernel. The menu options are stored in boot.ini, which itself is located in the root of the same disk as NTLDR."
