Will FB advertising work for me?

I'm trying to increase the turnover of my window repair business. More specifically we replace blown double glazed units.

Before I try FB adverts, I was wondering what people thought. Will it work me?

Let me give you the benefit of my experience as a consumer. I had a number of double glazed windows on our conservatory which had gone cloudy and one window where the hinge had snapped.

I did nothing about it, mainly because I'm a bit tight and I had no idea how much it would cost to fix. One day, my neighbour have a windows and doors bloke round, so I called him and asked him to pop round when he had finished the job to give me a quote. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the windows could all be fixed and at a reasonable price.

Therefore, in conclusion, yes I believe they can work, but you need to think like a consumer. Can you maybe offer a fixed price for replacing specific window sizes or at least give an indication of cost?

Facebook adverts can be good for certain types of businesses but tend to trend more to social things (like events and eating out) and consumer products. For something like Window repair I would recommend google adwords.

People on facebook are there to waste time, give them something fun and they will go along with it but not so much for trade services (unless they are on the groups, but that is not really somewhere adverts go).

PM me if you need advice on setting up adwords

James is spot on Google ads are more expensive proven to work better still is organic free traffic from having a website appearing in google search for 'leeds double glazing repair' (this is SEO)
But I would test using facebook too. I have a system for facebook Ads that I am not about to advertise and I do think businesses can get leads using it! So don't discount it. But paid advertising takes a little cash to get right, if you have the money it is fast though and leads come quick, you can also turn it on and off as you get busy etc..
I would first do all the local traditional marketing stuff out there like leaflet drops etc.
If you don't have a website get a small static site designed for 100 quid it helps with trust when facebook pages are hard to trust and worse are not found in google search.

I would say, yes! As you have described that you own a window repairing business. Advertising on Facebook will definitely increase the revenue. Facebook has a really amazing artificial intelligence. It will help you connect with the specific audience and the people who are searching for the services you provide!

The comments on Google adwords are really valid and could be a great way to ensure a targeted, audience and subject specific approach. Facebook does have a powerful advert creation tool and i'd recommend that whatever you do that you check it out - go through the process of creating an ad and selecting audience segments as this can give you some great insights into your local business area

I have been playing with Facebook Ads for a few months and run loads of tests and they are not easy to master but the popularity of Facebook makes it very hard to resist trying.

I have been involved in email marketing for 20 years so have a good understanding of how digital works but still I have found it very difficult.

In short, the things that have worked well and generated consistent results for me are as follows:
  • Tight targeting (location etc)
  • Message must be on point (i.e. relevant to your target audience)
  • Very clear call-to-action
In my opinion, Facebook is like a motorway, it handles huge volumes of people going back and forth - with Facebook Ads you get to build an exit people can take if they are interested in your product (you must therefore create copy that answers "desired outcome" rather than anything too technical).

The traffic wants to get back on the motorway quite quickly and continue their journey so you need to be prepared for this and either create something that can capture their contact details to re-engage them after they have left or create something so sticky they will in fact stop and hang around a while.

So in short, yes I think it will work for your window business if you can get the target right, create a message that resonates with people looking to get information about replacing their windows and give them a clear way they can get in touch to buy.

It is a good idea to keep a spreadsheet to track your test results otherwise like me you might get overwhelmed and miss the bits that work.

I built my international business from scratch primarily through Facebook. I paid for a few ads which were cheap. Once word got around I stopped advertising because I couldn't handle more work. Mine is a niche market though, so what may have worked for me may not work for others. Having a Facebook page though, can't do you any harm and is a place for reviews and information. Try a bit of advertising and see what happens.

Due to the social aspect of FB small light things like custom print T-shirt and upsell mugs to niche groups which have huge potential the more bulkier stuff needs testing with the pixel in use and only that will give you the clear answer to what will it do for me in terms of ROI.

The advantage that you have with Facebook Ads that no other advertising platform provides is the level of TARGETING.

When it comes to advertising on Facebook, you need to be laser-focused on:

1. Who are your ideal customers?
2. Where do they live?
3. How much income do they typically earn?
4. What is the chain of events that usually happens that causes somebody to require your services?

The other awesome thing about Facebook ads is how you can use something called a PIXEL to track those who are interested in your business page, visited your website pages or purchased something on your site.

You can then create ads that specifically target these potential customers so you can move them further down the buying cycle.

If you're new to Facebook Ads, this does take time and money to perfect. However, if it's done right, you could have an automatic money-making machine that you can turn on and off every time you're looking for new customers online.

Hope that helps!

Andrew
