Why I have fallen out of love with Wordpress

I have always been a big fan of Wordpress and used it to quickly set blogs for my business and integrate the blog to my main website. But suddenly 2 of my blogs have been suspended for no apparent reason - they don't contain adult, offensive or sexual material - just fairly regular stuff with unique blog posts I have written myself and a few relevant links in my blogroll and a few links back to my websites in some of the posts (less than 10).

Now the whole blog has been suspended - of course i have all the blog posts saved so I could set up another blog but what's going on here?

Have emailed Wordpress and my email has "Whizzed through cyberpspace" to them but 24 hours later no reply as to why my blogs have been suspended.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same - the only difference between the suspended blogs and several others that are fine (under the same account) seems to be that the blogname(.wordpress.com) is the same as the actual domain name of the main site.

All opinions gratefully received...

Don't use WP.com ;) They like other hosted blog solutions can and will shut down your blog for any number of reasons including: high bandwidth usage, copyright infringement, potentially libelous content and illegal content.

Get the blogs self installed using wordpress.org, you will then have far more control with content, design (can design to match your existing site) and you own the whole site and can't be dictated by wp.com. WP.org is also free.

The beauty of the wordpress blogs for me was that I could set them up really quickly and easily but are you saying I can use the software at Wordpress.org and that gives me the same options/ease of use etc but then sort out the hosting myself - happy to do that - i use a great company recommended to me a couple of years ago by someone on UKBF...

Off to check out wordpress.org - didn't even realise it existed.

For anyone who is not clear about my original post - YES wordpress itself just suspended 2 of my blogs - NO WARNING and so far no explanation - it didn't contain anything offensive, illegal, adult or infringe any copyrights - all posts were written by me - or, as far as I am aware, infringe their ToS.

Most hosts will do an automatic install of wordpress for you too.

Eg I purchased a domain name from Vidahost last night to use with some hosting I have with them; in literally minutes wordpress was up and running and I was starting to upload content etc. Very easy.

I don't know what access you have to your blogs now they've been suspended, but you should be able to import your existing content into self-hosted WordPress pretty easily.

Have now received a reply from Wordpress:

"...You agreed to the WordPress.com Terms of Service when you signed up.

WordPress.com does not allow blogs that are created for the purpose of directing traffic or creating backlinks to commercial web sites, affiliate/ptc programs or multi-level marketing campaigns. Your site has been suspended and will not be returned to you.

If you want to continue using WordPress for your site, we suggest you look into self-hosted WordPress..."

So same answer from them re self-hosted Wordpress - nice to know the UKBF response was quicker. And you can't use a Wordpress hosted blog to create backlinks to commercial sites according to their ToS - well that's a lesson learnt the hard way...

Goes to show that whenever something is billed as FREE, it's always worth reading the small print :)

The self-hosted WordPress is certainly your best option.

If you're wanting to run a bunch of sites/blogs make sure enable the Multisite feature in your new WordPress.

This will allow you to host thousands of sites all under one WordPress install and a single database! Great for saving a few quid on web hosting :)

As others have mentioned, having your own hosted setup with wordpress.org is the way to go and you will not have the same problem again.

There is a small learning curve to setting wordpress up through your hosting and there are videos on you tube that can help you out.

One thing I personally would recommend is using a hosting service that has cpanel. This setup has saved me so much time and most good services do offer this. DO NOT just go for the cheapest host.

Any probs let me know.
