Who's twittering?

FocusZenith

Hi all

We've started to use Twitter to keep businesses updated with our activities and upcoming events. I then thought it would be useful to find out who else was on twitter so that we could all expand our twitter networks.

If anyone wants to follow us on twitter we can be found on Twitter under FocusZenith.

What is your Twitter name?

Whats your secret to getting that many followers?

Spend 3-4 years on there :)

I guess to start with I'm fairly well known in the SEO industry, so I converse quite a lot with people I meet at conferences and other agencies that we work with and people I know online, I found that a lot of people who followed them also followed me.

Outside of that I always try to 'tweet' interesting links that are useful to people in the industry and business owners, from that I ended up getting on a lot of recommended lists, one of which was Robert Scobles recommended list, I got around 1000 followers just from being on there. Also by posting interesting stuff you tend to get retweeted a lot which is a great way of gaining prominence.

I don't really try to profit from it or gain any commercial benefit, but we have picked up a few clients just from being well known on Twitter and at least looking like we know our stuff.

Modern day marketing is very quickly evolving and whilst clearly tools like twitter won't prove to be of any real business worth for ALL businesses, I feel that each business owes it to themselves and their future success to at the very least try to include social networking in their overall marketing strategy and use it to their advantage.

Those that can't see the point, well that's fine, after all several companies still don't have email or websites and some still use typewriters.

The world moves on and time waits for no man. As I previously stated twitter has worked for me in a short space of time and has won me in addition to paying customers, some valuable new business contacts. To be honest I prefer companies that aren't as switched on as it means less competition for those more adventurous and forward looking companies. :)

Like I said, people with no social skills. You know nothing about me or my business.

I suggest you spend a couple of hours on there, there are some big hitters on there with excellent social skills. So just because you're not interested in it doesn't automatically mean the people who use the platform have no social skills.

I know a few things about you:

1. Your strapline sums it up by calling yourself older but no wiser :) - seems this maybe true?!
2. You criticise things BEFORE you try them

Both are FACTS

This is all I all I need to know to be honest in order to make my statement. Open your mind my friend, as it may just work with you as it has with many others, myself included!....

Kind Regards, Rachel

I think you need to check your facts, before making such statements.

1.Isn't ageism an offence now?
2.How do you know I have not tried twitter?

www.twitter.com/splashrafting

I have a very small amount of followers on there and I am just experimenting. I do see people wasting huge amounts of time, but I have also go business via it that far out ways the amount of effort I put in and it was not business that would have found me any other way.

As always, experiment, test and retest and keep it in balance with your marketing plan and time availability

To point no 2.

Your comment about people that use twitter have no social skills, that's a give away you've not tried twitter. Many businesses as already pointed out use twitter as a promotional platform once they've got their potential customers interested they continue to build the relationship away from twitter, i.e. face to face contact, email or by phone.

We use twitter for both our companies

    @ethical_PR for Upward Curve PR

@promotr for PROMOTR - our fixed price PR packages

Like any communciations it's about balancing what you get out for what you put in and making your that the communications you use reaches your target audiences/customers.

I think sometimes it's easy to get too carried away with social media and find yourself spending far too long on communications that don't have any real value to you having a successful business.

    We find it useful for:-

    • keeping up with breaking news
    • building relationships
    • attracting new business
    • sourcing new suppliers
    • getting advice
    • a watching brief on the sectors in which we operate
    • reputation building
We also use tools like Hootsuite to help us make sure any time we do spend is used as effectively as possible.
