Who is walking about with an HSBC calculator?

C

Christiane

It's their new idea of safer login online! I binned mine after using it once, not realising I need it EVERY time I login.

Now I don't want to even think of the cost of the bl@@dy thing!

For those who don't bank online with HSBC, they send you this mini calculator called a secure key thingy which generates a code everytime you want to login. Is it really safer :|

I absolutely hate them, detest them, despise them. Agonising pain in the rear end.

They are one of these things that really make me scream and scream and bang on the table - no exaggeration. Sometimes I have to do it several times and with the use of a choice of five different questions, memorable date etc etc. I just hate it but I have several bank accounts and have a stupid card reader with all of them now.

I have complained several times to say I do not like them and threatened to change bank and got through to someone. They said that they understood, not everyone likes them but they have not had much choice because of so much bank fraud and have invested millions in it and will not be getting rid of it.

They also said that other banks will be following suit and it seems that they have. There is nowhere left to run!

I absoltely share your annoyance.

I

I Love Spreadsheets

Lloyds TSB have them as well.

Not only are they a pain because everything takes 4 times as long but I keep leaving my card in the bloody thing. So when I'm out and about I can never find my card because its stuck in the device on my desk

With the Natwest account, it is not as bad as the co-op one. I do not need it to log on BUT for example employees, I pay them wage, fuel re-imbursement and any other expenses. These are done seperately for various reasons but everytime I change description I have to do the card reader rigmorole. I hate it.

I have rang them as well but that is the system and computer says no! Aaaargh.

I received mine (HSBC) today.
I've just wasted 20 minutes playing around with the security codes and am unable to log in quickly. I've tested the system out and most of the time, the secure code which is generated does not work.

I shall close by saying:

THE PERSON/PEOPLE WHO INVENTED THIS SHOULD BE TORTURED IN THE MOST HORRIFIC WAY POSSIBLE, BEFORE BEING SHOT AND FED TO WILD PIGS.

Never in my life have I encountered such a pain in the backside log in system.

I totaly agree! I have put of registering my HSBC secure code in the sure & certain knowledge that it will be a disaster & I will be unable to access my HSBC account.
Guess what? That is exactly what happened. Registered as per instructions on the web site, entered my security code into the daft little plastic thing they sent me, expecting it to accept the new code so I could use my verified pin number, only for the whole thing to lunch up and nothing happen.
Except I cannot now access my on line bank account.
Exactly what I predicted would happen, a complete waste of time.
I will now have to go into my local branch tomorrow & waste another hour or so.
It will be quicker to transfer my account to a bank that actually knows what it is doing with on-line banking.
Clearly HSBC do not have a clue & this new system is predicatably useless & a complete piss take & waste of time.
I will definately be closing my account after this as it is a sick joke!!

Yeah, likewise. When I reported spoof emails suposedly coming from HSBC their attitude was "Huh, you should realise it is a spoof email". Hardly reassuring from a Global Bank!
As for the new "Security System" with stupid pocket calculator that you know in advance it will not work because their system cannot accept the new log in details, then falls over, with no backup or even the "lost password" link working is a sick joke in this day & age.
Another example of technology at its sickest, behaving just like my windows "Vista" I am cursed with. God I hate technology!
What was wrong with the old simple system? At least it flipping well worked, unlike this piece af "made by Matel" junk!
I have stamped on repeatedly on this piece of crap & will deliver it in person tomorrow with my comments, at local HSBC branch, then change to Co-operative Bank, on-line for an offering that does what it says on the tin!
Ta, John.

Woooooo, let me stop you there!!!!!!!

I have screamed and screamed and stamped and broke a stapler and swore and shouted all because of this horrible little co-op "security device". I have rang up and complained but get nowhere and contrary to posts in this thread, as a co-op business banker, I have begged co-op to take this curse away from me and they will not.

Before you jump, in case I am being penalised in some way and other co-op members have managed to get their got rid of, then make sure you check with them beforehand that you will not be subject to this device. If there is a trick in the book to not have to have this, please divulge. I will happily pay for it. I cannot stand it.

What is equally bad, is that once you have managed to log in, which is a nightmare in itself, it logs you out after a few minutes. Sometimes much quicker than 10. Halfway through a transaction, it will log me out saying I have been away from my computer for so long it is a security measure. I have had to go back in three times today to do one transaction. It is a screaming disease.

It locks out apparantly because of these who log on there banks while at work, I am at home when I check but am penalised for those office workers who take the pee.

Is everyone talking about personal accounts or business accounts?

We have an HSBC business account but don't have the big calculator thing. It's a little keyring fob which creates a 6 digit number at the touch of a button. No problems with that.

I'm talking about a personal account.
The device is small.
I spent 20 minutes using it the other day and 80-90% of the time, the securecode generated does not work. I have to repeatedly enter a new number until eventually, it works.

As stated in my earlier post, this is the worst log in system I have ever encountered...EVER!

Just to add, I am for this instance talking about business banking but for personal although I can do somethings such as long in without a card reader for some things it is a requirement.

There seems to be no getting away from these annoying devices regardless of what bank we are with. I think this is what will encourage people to have the chip in the wrist at the end times!!!!!
