Who hires a domestic cleaner?

I've got a little sideline as a domestic cleaner on the go but am looking to 'target' my most likely customer.

Does anyone hire a domestic cleaner or work in this field? If so, who is the 'average' customer? I was thinking a small family, middle-income, working with kids. Would these be the best people to approach?

I'm doing door drops of printed dusters in my target areas. :)

My Wife runs a small domestic cleaning company and her clients fall into two main sectors, busy professionals with little time/inclination to clean themselves, for example one of her customers is a clinical psychiatrist and another is a midwife. The other main client sector is older people who are unable to clean through age related problems such as arthritis and other health issues.

On the whole though, I would say most of them are mid to high income earners. ( this may be because wife doesn't like cleaning scummy houses) so could be by design rather than accident

That's very much. Looks like the 'slightly posh' houses are indeed the ones to go for!!! :D

My wife and I are considering getting a cleaner, our reasons are she has asthma and I want a dog, i'm allowed one but the house must be kept spotless, as we both work and want to spend the weekend with our daughter rather than cleaning it would certainly help!

From the other side, many years ago I ran a cleaning company with an ex, our main clients were split into 2 main categories. The older generation who found it hard to keep their big homes clean, those who have a big house because of their kids/grandkids but mostly its just them and upkeep is a problem. The others were like myself, professionals with kids and better things to do than hoover/dust/clean all saturday!!! (middle class and lazy :p)

TOP TIP: Train Station Marketing

This is a good business idea and despite the gloomy economic outlook people still need domestic help, especially if they have a family, work long hours etc.

Train commuters, by their very nature, work long hours and probably have a family too (otherwise they would live where they work). Train commuters at least have middle-incomes and possibly higher end middle incomes - this would certainly help with affording domestic help.

So, what about spending a couple of evenings at your local train station exit, leafleting on their way home? It'll be in Mr Commuter's hand and into his house before you know it, probably just as Mrs Commuter is ready to complain to Mr Commuter about all the household things she has to do, as well as a full time job and raising the children.

Give it a try.

PS: Don't make the mistake of doing it in the morning, it'll get shoved in the briefcase at best and in the nearest bin at worst.
