Who has tried banner ads

Sorry I should make it clearer.

I mean purchasing CPM (1000 displays) on popular websites not banner exchanging as I have no intention of putting banners on my website.
Your probably better with CPC, with 1,000 CPM displays, you may never get any clicks, depends on your click-thru ratio. You'd be better off investing your money in SEO services, so you can get
1) Better traffic
2) More targeted traffic
3) Constant traffic

Tried it on several related portal websites for a previous business, in isolation they are not worth the cost but as part of a sustained advertising campaign banner ads can help in re-enforcing your marketing message.

For example, if you want to promote a new innovation or product for a month, having banner ads on high profile related websites can help alongside more affective traffic generating techniques such as PPC, email campaigns etc by re-enforcing your advertising message.

The premise being, if someone sees your message more than once and in more than one place they are more likely to respond to it :)

Adbrite are pretty good. We ran several tests and had some good results. Some people report a great bang for buck.

Best result is by using it to promote the 'freeline' concept push out banners offering a free guide/something something to get the best click thru rate - send them to a squeeze page and then market to them again and again
