Which laptops/desktop

Hi guys,

What is the best laptop/desktop out there with super quick processor, lots of memory and space.

How about virus/adware software?

Which ones do you use and also have seen some free downloads, which ones would you recommend?

Many thanks.

This changes so so so often its hard to advise. I have certain brands I trust - HP I really like - can't go far wrong, Lenovo - I think the IBM quality is still there at least in the Thinkpad series, and Dell are ok for budget purchases.

How about virus/adware software?
Eset Nod32 or Kaspersky... I'd opt for Nod32 tho.

Honestly, I'd buy the laptop from Lenovo... The desktop/server stuff from HP is fine, but tbh just about all other laptops feel pretty weak compared to my Thinkpad - I absolutely love it.... It just feels a lot more solid build quality than anything I've purchased elsewhere. (and the specs are generally good)

Nod32 (IMO) is the very best Anti-Virus application on the market today. (I wouldn't touch Norton even if someone paid me)

I'm most certainly not a techy, but I share an office with IT boys. They understand my IT needs and when I spoke to them the other day about buying a pc they said that anything on the market right now was more than adequate for my needs. They have preferred brands, Asus being their top choice at the moment. I literally use office and the net and iTunes and nothing else, and I can't see that changing. So the computer they have in mind for me is going to be about £250 +VAT. I would have bought something much whizzier and much more expensive, never to use all that whizzy stuff.

It may well be worth looking at this from what you want from your computer in terms of use and ease of use and then ask for advice.

For laptops, I've always been an IBM (Lenovo) person, mainly because my first job involved supporting them..and I found the build quality to be very good. Ok, they won't win any awards for being 'pretty' (buy a vaio if you want that), but they are solid machines.

As for antivirus, I too suggest Kaspersky - A relative new kid on the block (Founded in '97), but definitely making a name for itself. Also if you use the code Online50 - you get 50% off :D

Thank you,

That Kapersky was on gadget show.

I've always used Symantec but it seems to be that months/year later my laptop starts to slow down and sometimes freezes. I do use spybot to get if spywares etc..

I'll look into that Lenovo sorry not heard of it before.

I've always bought HP.

I know what you mean Angel, it depends on what you need it for, my mum's the same she only uses it for occassional surfing and writing so a simple laptop will do.
