Which domain? Used or new

These domains are examples only

I wanted to buy widgetmagazine.co.uk (never been registered) but then noticed the thewidgetmagazine.co.uk was available.

This has been used before. The last time it was mentioned in WebArchive was 2005 and as far as I can see there is only one inbound link to the site and if I do a site: search on google nothing is found.

Is there much value in getting thewidgetmagazine.co.uk as it has history instead of my prefered domain?

Any opinions gratefully received.

personally I would go with the aged domain if you know it hasn't had any bad history with Google, which to be honest is very hard. I done it with http://www.blueprintoffice.co.uk/ and its starting to pay off.

The alternative is to buy the new domain, put a wordpress blog on it straight away and build up your own history before the site is live. That is something I am testing out on a few domains now and its starting to look like a good idea already.

New domain,

1- it's shorter and easier to remember
2- domain age is only an issue for the first 60-90 days of your website, everyone has this big idea that if a domain is 10 years old it will do better than new domains but this is not the case, Google can actually use the domain age against you as your information may become dated and irrelevant to a website which is newly created.

What a load of hogwash.

A ten year old domain in general will have built up trust ,authority and links that far outweigh any benefits of a new keyword rich domain.

When did Google start ranking based on generality? I must have missed that update.
As VinceSamios suggests, I would get both then 301 the old to new domain.

I think search engine optimization word is not done for this site. That's why your site have only one outbound link. you should do s.e.o work for your site. Though this your problem will be solved and your business will also grow.
