Hi

You have the website. Youve built it using an ecommerce package (123reg).
How do you go about getting it ranked over time in Google with SEO?
:|:|
What ive done so far
  • Each page has keywords
  • each product has keywords.

You have an uphill battle using a 123reg store due to the technical limitations. is the content unique? i.e. have you written the descriptions in house, are the titles unique? have you added content to the pages, details product number etc.

Once built you need to drive traffic to it, which means letting people know about it. Find some trade directories, get listed in Google places (make sure you have optimised for that).

Ive got PPC running and a large number of followers on twitter and facebook but when it comes to google nothing appears after several months

Content isnt very unique i must admit. Ive added descriptions to what the suppliers have sent me.

123re not very 'seo friendly' then? mmm thats not very good :-/

If you are aware of some SEO Techniques and have little SEO knowledge, you could start the SEO by your own on a primary basis. Try out some link building by directory submission & search engine submission. If you want to kick start your website and start generating queries instantly you may go for Pay Per Click Advertising. Check out Google Adwords.

For better results I would suggest to see the professionals

Basically, if you want your website to rank high in the search engines you need keyword rich unique content and quality backlinks. Even reciprocal links can help. Google loves video (owns Youtube) so a video would help too. PPC is for driving traffic and not for SEO. Good SEO will eventually get you free traffic.

One of the biggest problems i see with people looking for seo with e-commerce is duplicate content. They use the manufacturer product descriptions word for word. Consider what keywords you want each product to be found for and consider rewriting some content.
If you are not bringing someone in for your SEO then consider SEOMOZ beginners SEO guide http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo this has been updated this week and will be helpful.

Hello KRange,

I would advise that you do some research into SEO and find a bit more out about the basics and what SEO can actually do for you and your website. Once you understand a bit more you will be able to implement those changes your self and save your self a lot of time and money, small changes can make a big difference when it comes to on-site SEO work
