Hi all,

This is my first post on the forum. Nice to meet you all, and looking forward to hearing your opinions and advice over the next few months.

I have a business idea and I'd like to get some market research from small business owners to see if the idea is a runner or not. I don't have much money to invest in the research at the moment; so, I've decided to lead it myself. I've created a questionnaire, but I'm getting stumped on where to place the questionnaire to get responses.

Does anyone have any advice on where the best places would be to get respondents to my survey (aside from the pre-vetted respondents you have access to once you pay companies like survey monkey).

Thanks in advance!

Go to your local chamber of commerce and find their networking events they have and hound small business owners there :) I know the chamber of commerce for kent provides a lot of free afternoon networking events it only costs you time and petrol.

Hi - thanks for your reply,

That is a great idea.

I've been so focussed on online market research that I've neglected to think about traditional face-to-face networking opportunities. I'll contact the local chamber of commerce and see what I can get involved with.

Thanks again.

No problem let us know how you get on!

Be prepared to be sold to a lot! I use to do business networking but I do not enjoy it anymore its just constantly selling and fake smiles (at my events), As Opposed to my property networking events where people actually care and where I have built some strong business related relationships :).

I have a little problem with market researching and directly asking people what they want, simply because people lie... they will tell you what they think you want to hear and therefore you end up with incorrect research.

If people in your idea market are already buyers then you would do better to research what they are already buying this kind of research is more accurate, think click bank, Amazon best seller list. If you find a hungry crowd then serve them up their favourite food.

Good Luck.
