Where to find commission-only sales people?

agentbase if you are looking for serious commission only sales guys.

Building a team of commission-only sales people is different from paying part commission. They are going to want to see that they are going to be earning money quickly. Anything too complex or too long before they get paid and they will run a mile....or at least the good ones will

Agentbase is very good, but be warned, the old way of reps touring the country in their BMW's cold-calling on shops etc. is fast dying. Agents who operate in that way are finding it harder than ever to make a living. I got a few agents through agentbase - all of them have gone, and several dropped out of being reps all together because they couldn't make a living out of it anymore. Some had done it for years, too. In the end I gave up and concentrate on direct internet selling instead. Your own industry might be different but certainly in retail, employing reps is difficult at best, and a waste of time at worst.

Hi Will,

You could try Index.co.uk or People Per Hour. you may get a few time-wasters but I have found some good people on both platforms.

If your sales people do not need much previous experience then you could contact some local universities or colleges to find some bright students. I have also don't this for a few creative jobs.

You'll find commission-only (self-employed) sales agents on CommissionCrowd. 75% of sales agents that have registered have over 10 years experience working for themselves after a long background spent as company employees.

However, there are a few things you should know before setting out to build a pay-on-performance sales team.

Firstly you should understand that the industry is still highly fragmented and largely misunderstood. Proof of which can be seen above in one comment in particular.

You should understand first and foremost these sales professionals spend many years as company employees before deciding to break away and start up on their own. The goal is to then build a portfolio of products or services that compliment their existing industry contacts. This is why you'll rarely find an agent who's willing to represent a single company on a full time basis.

The key here is to remember that these people are not out of work or desperate enough to work for free. They are looking to forge multiple valuable partnerships which can be successful in the long-term.

Often agents will drop out or break away from one of their company Principals if that company become too demanding of their time, their products haven't achieved much traction in the Marketplace, the company have under-delivered on customer service or support or the sales cycle is just turning out to be too long.

Here's an article you will find helps you to understand exactly who these sales professionals are and what they expect from companies before agreeing to work with them: 10 Things To Understand Before Working With Commission-Only Sales People
