Hi, I was hoping to buy a Turkish domain via our 123reg account but they don't do them. If I do a search for Turkish domain services I come across a range of websites, some dodgier looking than I'd like, who charge anything from £27 to £200 odd. Any recommendations?

    Thanks

I looked at this a few years ago and it needed an office address in Turkey to purchase one. Presumably with a business tax number attached to it.
I'm not sure if you can get a broker now. Turkish domain registrars might not want to take the risk as the current government is hot on "outspoken critics".

Thanks for this Siobhan. I presume the places currently offering Turkish domains may be a bit suspect then? I'm getting results like:

so there seems to be a few places that are advertising the fact they sell Turkish domains but, based on what you've said I'm not sure how to proceed, unless I email some of these places and get a feel for what needs to happen.

LOL. The hosting.co.uk entry does specify this, I missed it:

What is a .com.tr domain name?

.COM.TR is the country code domain for Turkey. It is operated by the registry Nic.TR and can be registered by Turkish nationals or commercial entities with a business relationship with Turkey. .COM.TR domains are available for a minimum one year period.

I'm not sure how one proves the 'business relationship with Turkey' though, we need to buy and register our brand name for a new Turkish trade customer to use.

    Hi,
I have the Turkish nationality and a Turkish company. For the *.tr extensions you need to have a VAT number in Turkey. Any other solutions will be expensive and not stable beside.
But why would you do that. For search engines, or to gain trust? We prefer *.com domains instead of *.tr domains for several reasons. It is somehow old-fashioned looking to get local domains in Turkey if you dont have an extraordinary reason. You can get it from any Turkish hosting or domain name provider. It is 2 usd per year, just checked.

OpenProvider do com.tr domains. Price seems to be $38 US each. Probably VAT extra.
    They are a respectable registrar.
Yep, rather than having a Turkish company and VAT there are exceptional, expensive ways to get *.tr domain names. If you trust your registrator, then no worries. They have many ways to get it. This is the way of internet. My other reply was about %100 official way to get one.
