What's the difference between drop shipping and direct dispatch?

I still have that fire alight inside me to set up an E-Commerce site, and I was just looking at a few suppliers. I found one that offered Direct Dispatch, but not Drop Shipping. Both sound the same to me and I couldn't find a definition of Direct Dispatch, so can anyone help?

Thanks.

it depends, drop shipping is normally people who buy from the manufacturer, then selling it to a retail on a sale by sale basis and send it to the customer directly.

Direct dispatch is the same thing, but normally comes from the manufacturer so in essence missing out the middle man

They are the same thing in essence, also not I say normally there are variations, like you can sometimes buy in bulk and send it on a sale by sale basis, and others.

Ok, so this company says they offer direct dispatch, with a minimum order of 200 orders per week.

This means I must send them 200 orders per week, and when they receive an order, they take the money out of my account and send the product to the persons address. Then I keep the customers money. Right?

depends on the company but generally no, you build a web site, you advertise products on it, when a sale comes through your site, you purchase of a drop shipping company send them the mailing address and they send it to your customer and charge you.

There are draw backs to drop shipping as well, do a search on the form for drop shipping there is loads of posts about it.

Hi I have a website selling shoes and I only use dropshippers. It's a great business model because you are not exposed to any stock issues and you keep your costs to a mimimum.

I have learned that when it comes to drop shipping you need to read thier conditions very carefully, they are all slightly different. None of mine charge a joining fee, but they do charge something. One will charge £4.00 per pair of shoes, another one won't but his prices are higher and so it goes.

Good Luck

I have to say that I love reading forums and joining in discussions, but one thing I have noticed is how paranoid everyone is. Take this thread about drop shipping for instance - not just on this forum but also on others - people immediately shout "Scam !" "dodgy !", "I tried it and got scammed "

I don't think it is helpful to generalize in a negative way to people who want to have a go at running their own business.

I am sure that there are scammers in the drop shipping world just as there are in other forms of business. You just have to do some spade work and trust your instincts. Check companies out, find out who else has sold their products and contact them to see if they have had good buying experiences.

Try it out yourself by ordering a product - you may need to register but it should be free to do that. See how long it takes to recieve your product, what was the packaging like etc.etc........ Just use your common sense

Just my tuppence worth
