Does anybody know whats the cheapest way to find out who owns a house. I know you can find out who owns by going on land registry and paying £3 for title register.

The can be very expensive when you have say 100 properties to do. Anyone know a cheaper way????

Yes, its to tarket potential landlords with a letting and property management service I provide. I have a list of houses that have been rented out in the past, but after knowing who owns the houses (landlords) so I know where to send tarket marketing info to.

5 years back when the company I worked for checked a number of these daily we had an account and the cost was about half per search.

From memory though if you searched one property it would also bring up the linked properties as part of that search.

I'm unsure if there was an extra charge per property as it was on account.

Also I'm not sure of the legalities of using that personal info for marketing purposes - sounds grey at best.

Mancuniancreative,, ha ha I like your creative thinking but I think if I knock on the door and ask who landlord is and where they live, I dont think the tenants are giing tell me!!

Im guessing the electorial roll will just give me current/past occupiers.

What about the council 'salford council' are they able to give that type of info out?? Is there anywhere u can obtain who paid council tax at a property?? As that might give me info I need. (Ie a londlord is responsible for council tax when property is empty) so unless they always had property tenanted then they must be down as paying council tax sometime in past??

I just got my quote off the company you sent the link for! Heres the reply!!

Asked for quote for 100 property searches

"That would normally work out at £1,995.  We would be prepared to do them for you for £1,000."

How much!!! They having a laugh!! Can do myself on land registry for £300 (£3 x100)

I also do not know another way to check this. However have you been thinking to try a slightly different approach than Mancunian creative`s suggestions. Knock on the door and ask for the landlord`s telephone. This is not like asking where they live, so hopefully the residents will be eager to provide you with this.

HMLR Register enquiry is £3 per property. Paid using credit or debit card.

If you do this regularly, you could apply for Business E-Service where you would then have an ability to pay using Variable Direct Debit.

When we applied for Business E-Service, it took around 2 weeks for it to be fully set up.
