I keep getting emails from stupid sites like [email protected] pretending to be hsbc, but once you ignore all possible emails they then send the next lot from [email protected] they are both obviously fake. But what is the best way spam them back? something not to time consuming would be good.
There isn't. Any attack you do will just hurt innocent ISP's and or peoples "zombied" PC's.

These guys almost never use thier own systems to send out this type of spam.

No, they are getting really sneaky! I came into work jus last week to find a shed-load of emails to our member services account. They had basically got a load of email addresses (thankfully not ours/yours) and sent their mailing from our @ukbusinessforums email address! Cheeky devils!

you cant spam them back, it's unlikely the email has come from that source but from a hacked website using the PHP server to send out emails. not much you can do except visit the website in question (use a non-work computer or linux in case of malicious content), find out the ISP for that website, actual owener and contact them and also the bank to say the site is being used for phising. Many of these websites are legit websites that have been hacked so probably would appreciate you letting them know.

As mentioned earlier, a google mail account is by far the best way. you can redirect your mail to it easily, there is a huge free limit, you can access your mail from anywhere you can use a browser. The anti spam filter is in general very good. There are a few occasions where there are spams to xyz @ my domain where xyz has never existed, and are not caught but is easy to create a rule to send those straight to bin. If you browse in opera, when you create a reply you get automatic spell checking as well.
