What SAFE & EASY Business can I start with £100k capital???

Its true UK is really run down and 3rd world compared to many other western countries HOWEVER - London is London and UK is UK - and there are some of us who like to live in the posh central london locations around a private garden square and drive an aston martin up and around chelsea. The 200k is just ADDITIONAL funds I have to fulfil this visa issue - otherwise I don't need to work and can live anywhere I want in the world. The visa allows me to travel 3 months a year with no issues and that works for me - I like London for a lot of reasons - convenience being the major reason - it's easy to do things and get things done in London, the infrastructure is improving and still better than many other countries and I love the food, theater, art, fashion but most of all I want to live in London because its an open minded city - with the world at your fingertips. I am sorry but those of you who whine about the UK - you probably hate it because of immigrants taking over your country - those are asylum seekers and mostly poor workers - not me... don't lump me with those kinds of people even though I have nothing against them but I have nothing in common with them either. They come to UK to take something out - I am in UK to give something ... a lot of something... and as of now (thankfully) all UK settlement routes are closed for everyone except INVESTORS like me.. and we live in our posh central london apartments - don't worry when I leave london I take an international flight or the eurostar... have no desire to visit the rest of UK... whats the point... every street looks exactly the same anyway.

And poppy - there is no financial incentive for me in your country - I am the financial incentive to UK rather....LOL.... I still don't get it why some british people have to be so hostile towards everyone these days?? Is your life really so bad?? Think about it - there's only less than 10% foreigners even now living in the UK - they couldn't have messed up things for you - perhaps your own people are the problem... a 10% foreign population can't do much to take away your way of life really.

Maybe I will go somewhere more "civilized" at least where they dont abuse a millionaire investor on a business forum.... show some class....if you have any that is.

Merci.

When you first posted (the nursing home thread) and then subsequently wanting to invest £100.000 in safe, risk free business etc etc, you sounded like a chancer (and to be honest you still could be).
Anyone, can write they are rich!

You really have led yourself into the arena of negative comments, and like I posted; many people pop up on here stating they are mega rich.

You sound like someone else who (has been banned) bragging away, its get tedious reading it - to be honest I think you are him, especially when you write about cars.

I always expected millionaires to have a bit more class, shows how wrong you can be.

Good for you if you are what you say, and good for the Country if you invest, though I doubt it will make much difference, other than to anyone you perhaps employ.

Do you like chocolate.:D

DId I ever mention anywhere that I was an American?? I can't stand that goforsaken country or it's people at all. And no I am not pretending to be mega rich - in fact I am NOT mega rich... I wrote everything honestly - did not want to give out all the details but then I got attacked here so who cares. Believe me - I am bored... I am single... I am looking for some stability - and I am commitment phobic... so if I take this money and put it somewhere at least i'll find some peace. I dont even care if I make no profit as long as I don't lose my capital - just because I have money doesn't mean I am willing to just throw it away. I may not be super clever but I ain't stupid either.

P.S. - I was only looking for advice and some input from experienced people here but this has gone way off topic with personal attacks by some members - which i don't understand why they have such a problem?? I don't really care for these petty people to be honest because where I live in London and hang around - I don't have to deal with such people... that's why I like it so much....

Poppy - care homes are relatively LOW RISK too - and I am still considering investing in one of those, and I can put in more than 100k for the right business. I am exploring all options here... nothing else. Care homes just don't excite me much... I want to get involved in a business but not too involved either.

Thanks.

Your problem OP, is that you have created doubt about your credibility in the following ways:

1. Asking for advice on how to set up a business with almost magical qualities (low investment, low effort, high yield)

2. Despite saying numerous times that the business is of no concern at all, simply a means to an end that you will have micro involvement with, the business now needs to excite you.

3. Asking very basic questions, implying that you have little or no business knowledge. This would cause many to assume that any wealth you may have is inherited, however were this the case many would expect you to display evidence of a good education.

4. You are wealthy enough that the UK should regard you as an asset, yet at the same time are not all that wealthy? To impact on the economy of an entire country, especially one as complicated as here in the UK, an individual must have immense wealth.

Hope that helps you to understand petal.

There are no areas of London in which pettiness doesn't exist. I would argue that it's rife in the wealthiest parts actually! As for a house in a nice London square with an aston martin parked outside - I don't think you have any idea how much that costs. But £1m won't get you close I'm afraid.

Put simply, anyone that can afford the idylic London existence you describe, would have no problem bunging the 200k in whatever direction they needed to in order to meet requirements. They wouldn't care if it worked out, particularly not if they wanted no hassle from the business. They wouldn't care about high yield because the 200k would be pocket money compared to the rest of what you describe.

And I won't accuse you of lying, but I will say that for whatever reason you lack credibility in my eyes altogether. I don't believe anything you have said I'm afraid. You may be telling the truth (I don't know) but it's only fair to let you know that it doesn't sound like you are. You should probably address that before visiting border control...

Perhaps not quite the point, but I missed that Aston talk.... any mention of what model? :)

For £800k or even £750k - you can easily buy a 2 bedroom on a private garden square in South Kensington / Chelsea. I've spent enough time in London to know this. As for an Aston martin - that's only £1500 a month for a vantage so no big deal. I am single, without a family or any kids - I need a good address not a mansion for myself to live alone in.

As for my credibility - most of you posting responses have no clue about how to handle or make money. I am experienced with properties and have more knowledge in properties than anyone else here will however I do not have knowledge in running a small business. I never said I need to get "excited" about a business - I said care homes do not "excite" me - because that is a depressing business when I think of it - who needs to deal with whinney old British people and see them die in your property?? If I could just invest in properties under this visa then believe me I would - but the UK government does not allow investment in property as a means to live in the UK. A big reason why the UK economy is also failing is because the previous government made a lot of bad decisions and drove investors (big and small) out of the UK - now they are coming up with new ways to attract those investors back to the country. And yes believe me at this point with the way UK's economy is going - even a £200k investment in a Business with some job creation makes a HUGE difference to your country's government... they are literally begging entrepreneurs and investors from around the world to invest in the UK.

All I am trying to achieve here is come up with some ideas on how to safely invest 100 or 200 k and take my chances at a business which will also give me some grounds for stability - I don't want to work 9 to 5 nor do I want to work every day... if I can find a business with low overheads, safety and invest part of the money in real estate then i'm happy doing that...as for how much money I have or "dont have" for that matter - is none of anyone's business here. I don't even understand why some people on here are so obsessed with finding out what I am all about rather than just sticking to the topic of discussion??

Despite the few negative comments - I am still not put off with britain overall because some british people are extremely nice, intelligent and worldly - which is what I am too generally and I get along with those types. However a lot of British people these days are very frustrated, anti-immigration and hateful / bitter towards foreigners - but these same people also resent each other too. They blame all their problems on foreigners and think UK is going to hell - fact is these people haven't lived in other countries to see how bad things are in the rest of the world. London offers a dynamic environment to someone like me who enjoys good things in life and can afford them - no other city offers this not even New York... i've already lived in NYC for 15 years and gotten over it. My advice to the frustrated British people - UK still has a lot of opportunities so stop worrying about losing your british identity and embrace a modern britain...imagine how boring london would be if it were still 100% british serving british food only instead of all the interesting cuisine from all around the world.

What an odd response to a simple question about which Aston you like.

You didn't say that you need to be excited about a business? Dismissing a business because it does not excite you amounts to the same thing cutie.

I can't speak for everyone of course, but I don't really care who or what you are, I welcome your presence here as a lot of the tried and tested numpties have left recently.

Oh, by the way, £200k makes almost zero difference to the UK economy as I am sure you are well aware.

Trading Post -

Read the responses prior to yours above - I was just clarifying a lot of the points raised by someone else and you regarding my "credibility". The other person had questioned that under £1 million there are no properties in central london's posh areas and that is completely WRONG.

As for 200k making a difference - even 10k makes a difference right now - and its not just the 200k investment - by setting up any business in UK even a small business makes a big difference especially as this will also create a minimum of 2 full time jobs. And collectively if even a 100 people come to the UK under this visa and invest a min. of 200k each plus create 2 jobs each then think about how much of a difference that will make. The business also creates further cash flows in the economy and contributes in more ways than you can imagine - it's not just a simple 200k injection in the economy - a lot more is involved.

Thanks.

Then why include an irrelevant quote? How odd.

I have posted no judgement upon this scenario, just explained to you why some others seem to think that you are a liar/idiot.

There are numerous reasons why I haven't bothered offering advice. Chiefly, you have changed what you are actually asking for so many times it is very unclear what you want. Taken at face value you are so massively successful and wealthy that a simple shopkeeper like myself couldn't possibly offer anything constructive, plus I'd choose not to anyway as you come across as what I would politely phrase 'one of them'.
If you are not to be taken at face value then I should like to see you evolve this idea the way that a much lauded, former member did, before he went off the rails and became too obvious.

There is no need to be abusive now - I never abused you or anyone else here so this just goes to show how much class you have really. A simple shopkeeper?? Well I can understand your jealousies then - but to be honest if you looked at the people below you in this world you would be happier being where you are - rather than feeling insecure and jealous by looking at people above you.

Take care.... oh and I won't call you an idiot... I just feel sorry for you because you sound like a bitter unhappy and miserable person.

I dont normally go in for this type of response to a poster but I will make an exception on this occasion. What is all this above you / below you BS? Money or the lack of doesnt place you or anybody else in a heirarchy. You are clearly a very arrogant and obnoxious man/woman and we dont need any more of your type in our country - we have enough of our own.

Now I would prefer if you would kindly take your 200k or £1m or whatever else it is you have and go spend it somewhere else!!

Excuse me - who the hell are you to tell me where to go and take my money?? And believe me - a foreigner with money is more welcomed by your government than you pathetic British people. Why dont you do us all a favour and move to florida or spain and stay there getting a snake like burned skin and drinking beer all day long??

Why dont you mind your own pathetic business from now on stop posting nasty messages here - what a sad little jealous person you are...LOL... your government needs me and begs me to invest in your country - you have no say in your country ... get over it now.. UK is owned by wealthy foreigners like me... and people like me only own 99% of real estate in london... people like you are our tenants and deserve to remain tenants forever.

Bye Bye forever....you wont be getting any more responses from me...

I think you have misunderstood me petal, I have not abused you and I have not called you an idiot, perhaps you should read my post again. I've actually attempted to help you understand some of the responses to your ever changing question.

I'm not one to be jealous, though I'm not sure what you might think I would be jealous of?

Although your not posting anymore, the immigration requirements for you to come into the country is not a form of the UK government begging you to come in. This type of visa has similar requirements in the USA, Canada and so on. The USA and Canada don't beg people either to take up these visas they just offer this route to those who may contribute to the country, but it isn't begging.

Also the rules for your current visa will be changed in April this year so you may want to look at those to make sure you don't make yourself ineligible to renew your visa after the initial 3 years is up.

Consultant sea -

1) I already have the entrepreneur visa - I am exploring my options now.

2) All UK settlement visas are NON-retrospective so even if rules change in 3 years they won't apply to me as I already am in the UK under existing rules.

3) The entrepreneur visa is supposed to be made EASIER and more lucrative in April wheras the Tier-1 general has been completely stopped. SO I will wait until april to see if the rules change then I can switch or remain with the current visa depending on whether the new rules are better or not. All I heard so far is that they are coming out with a £50,000 investment only visa to attract more entrepreneur investors and they are also relaxing the rules for travel while being on this sort of a visa.

The only people affected by visa changes are those who need to seek jobs or get sponsored in the UK - for self sufficient people and investors the rules are actually being made much more simpler.

THANKS FOR YOUR "GENUINE" CONCERN.

Can you read and understand english properly?? If you are british then it's the language of your country - so read again. I never said anywhere that I won't be posting on the forum - I simply said I won't be replying to one particular member here who keeps posting insults directed towards me - clearly some of you chavs are just jealous and can't digest the fact that a foreigner can come and employ your people and bring his own money along.

If you were nice to me - i'd probably teach you a trick or two on how to become financially independent and live anywhere in the world like I do... and I ain't desperate to live in the UK - if I find a good business to invest in then fine - if not then I can still live 6 months a year with no issues.. so who cares. I have no visa restrictions to travel around the world and be based in most countries... my reasons for investing in UK are different...and rather personal anyway.

YOu are wrong - £85k is the minimum investment required for setting up a Mcdonalds now - see here - http://www.franchisedirect.co.uk/foodfranchises/mcdonalds-franchise-06834/

It is a very profitable business HOWEVER I am a health freak and it is absolutely against my principles to sell that heart attack causing artificial cancer food to anyone especially kids who can have major health problems later on in life if they are fed Mcdonalds everyday.

The US economy is much more deeply screwed than any EU country. Not on paper of course, but the US pension crisis alone is big enough to bankrupt the entire country if it were ever confronted. There are some genuinly succesful UK business people on these boards that live/work in the states that share that concern.

It's civilised by the way, there is no 'z'. You were supposed to borrow our language, not ruin it. And I don't have a clue why you signed off in French :|

Canadian maybe...

Simply put there is no "safe" and "easy" business. I know business owners in all areas that are struggling at the moment so wouldn't advise committing yourself before considerable research!

I would also go into a sector that you have experience in, business contacts and preferably a strong interest.

So lets get this straight...

You would teach us a trick or two about how to make money and live anywhere in the world, but only if we first answer your original question - which was how to make easy money and live in the UK. Where apparently, you don't want to live anyway.

Can you not see that it's pretty pointless blackmailing us to answer your question by offering to give us the answer???

I'm so sorry, but it really looks like you don't have the intelligence to fight your own corner in a consistent manner. The people on these boards argue a lot, we're a strong headed bunch. But we can all agree and sniff out a loony or a liar within a few posts. You my foreign (whatever ish...) friend, qualify.

There's a safestore franchise near us that seems a pretty good investment. Not sure what it costs to get such a franchise. Apparently safe store locate the site, build the building and lease it back to the franchisee, who then takes over the running of it and pays a fee to the franchisor which seems to be based on a mixture of a fixed amount (so some risk) and percentage of the rental revenues. I don't know what such a franchise would cost, but the reason I thought it was pretty good is because I was talking to the store manager one day and asked him if he owns it, and he said, in three years of working there, he had never met Mr Lam, the owner, in person. He's not even sure where they live, nor if they have ever even visited the site.

The guy who owns an inner city warehouse here (Edinburgh) - which is divided up and used by various artists and crafts people - lives in South West Scotland, Stranraer, I think he said. He employs a couple of managers and some kind of maintenance guy who is actually an electrician by trade to oversee the day to day running of the site. It's only open from 8am to 8pm or so, so not very long hours. Presumably health and safety come into play for this kind of thing. He comes up now and then, usually for open days, when they have an open day and the people who visit can buy things from the craftspeople. The money side of it seems quite efficient. There's a waiting list of craftspeople to go into the site, and he just collects everything via standing orders. He did say it took a while to get going, as in be profitable enough to make it a worthwhile investment, but his definition of "a while" was 18 months. Compared to my definition, that seemed pretty much instant to me :)

Arrrghhhhh.... people are so ignorant here... have you read my entire post?? I AM NOT - I REPEAT I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A WAY TO MAKE EASY MONEY AND LIVE IN UK - I already have enough money - I am in UK on an entrepreneur visa which has a CONDITION to invest 200k in a business - and does not allow just simple property investment or else I would not even bother here. I am already a successful property investor but need to invest 200k within 3 years in a business just to fulfil this requirement and also have something to do cuz I have nothing to do right now and am bored. Why is this so difficult for you to understand??? I am an expert in properties - and if this visa allowed property investment I would have loved to do it - the only way I can invest in property under this visa is if I buy a commercial property and use it for the business purpose - such as buying a retail shop and opening up a business in it.

Now you are bored and want something to do, before the business was just to tick boxes and you wanted minimal involvement.

Why don't you have a little think what it is that you are actually asking, and try again?

X.

The guy who owns an inner city warehouse here (Edinburgh) - )

Is that the one at Sighthill? I ask, because we've got a unit there at the moment while my house is being extended.

There's a sign up saying "24 hour access". And another one with the opening times.... :|
