What methods of mobile phone payment are there?

We are primarily online based but sometimes we get shoppers in person.

Apart from cash, now that cheque cards have been phased out, and a chip and pin terminal, what payment methods are there whereby a customer can make an instant cleared payment by mobile phone?

Would it be feasible for example for them to make a Paypal payment on their mobile phones which we could check online before they go away with goods?

Are there any other commonly used smartphone payment apps?

Most of our customers are aged 20-40 and have smartphones so what are the options?
