As the title says really. Will I need to apply for a certain area or am I free to sell where I feel free, once licence is granted? The Van will be an extension of the Deli/Sandwich Bar - from where the food will originate from.

Does the food HAVE to be pre-packed, or can it be done so each individual filling is prepared and stored and then made up for the customer as they request it...as per the shop?

Thank you.

There's a fish and chip van in the next village along from us in Kent (and very nice it is too :)) and their van is on the side of the road. I know from chatting to him and his wife that they had to rent the space from the council.

You can't just pop your van up wherever you feel like it! You need to get permission from the land owner. The owner may or may not charge you but from experience if the owner is a council they will charge you and it will be very difficult to get!

As for license, you will almost certainly need a street traders license!

You will also need public liability insurance.

You should register with Environmental Health.

You will also probably need a Food Hygiene Certificate.

I could be wrong on some of these and maybe someone will correct me but that is what I think you will need.

If the food is stolen I would not bother with all those licenses. All you need is a balaclava, dark hoody and your van parked at an angle that is condusive to rapid departure.

You may also want bribe young local children with scraps of food to act as lookouts incase the 50 is heading your way.

This method works. Seen it on TV. True story.
