What is the minimum we need to do to file?

A friend and I setup an internet based company (affiliate marketing) a few years back which we worked on in our spare time - it started off OK and made a small profit and paid a small dividend in first few years, got full accounts done and filed for 3 years running.

It's now died a bit of a death (lack of time recently) and we have zero money in company. We have no debts as these have all been cleared and all overheads cut back to absolutely nothing. Currently income is about £50 a month if that. Last accounting period will show a loss of approx £2000 (which ate the cash in the account and got us to this point)

We need to file accounts soon, but having no money we can't pay an accountant. Original plan was to file a loss and strike off. Friend wants to have another bash at getting it going (it just needs time and attention) and so wants to file ourselves and carry on for another year at least and see how we do.

Question is what's the minimum we need to file - is it Short Form CT600 and abbreviated accounts? Is this even possible for the layman to do without causing a lot of future grief, or should we go down the striking off route?

Many Thanks

As the company has traded you are going to need to prepare full accounts for HM Revenue & Customs and a CT600 tax return and abbreviated accounts for Companies House.

If their is a loss it may be that it could create a tax refund?

I truly dont think a layman can deal with limited company accounts and tax.

If their was very little trading and you have kept good records you neednt pay huge sums in accountancy fees to get all of this sorted for you. Especially if you want to continue trading with the company
