Articles will always be a big part of an SEO content strategy, whether you decide to place the article content on on your own site either in a blog or article section or you add articles to other sites or not.

As far as I'm concerned the more quality content the better.

If you feel that content is saturated then write and invest in articles that have more weight to them that just the standard run of the mill articles that are knocked up in 30 minutes with a minimum of 400 words.

There are always different angles to write an article on, so get creative :)

In relation to article directories, as TerryUK says I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket.

In terms of ezinearticles and some of the bigger article directories, I haven't noticed a drop in rankings for sites with links from these sites.

There is no future for article directories and syndication/spinning services - It's too easy to do and manipulate search engines, the one thing Google will do everything in their power to prevent.

As it always has been, but expected to only get more and more rewarding - Write quality, engaging content that YOUR target market want to read - This means engaging with your audience, identifying your market, researching your industry and consumer trends.

Give your market what they want, and the search engines will love you.

    In terms of articles on article directories I think it's pretty much useless now. I'd much sooner put articles onto a customers site than onto an article directory.

    At the moment the main factor when it comes to articles is, 'are they unique'! I believe over the next few years Google will starting looking at some if not all of the following;

    Were you the first to publish the information, i.e was is groundbreaking information
    Is the information valid and correct or just waffle
    Is the article well presented and easy to read

    Google is already putting technology in place to make this happen.

    I agree that panda has had a strong adverse affect on article directories. Many of them are starting to make it so that you have to give them exclusivity with the articles that you upload, but that reduces the number of links you have floating around. Personally I am starting to favour my blog over articles.

    I think article directories are becoming less effective so I have been researching other methods of SEO to do instead.

    I don't like article directories, never have, but they still are working for some websites.

    It's been said already, I just wanted to put in my two pennies worth - create interesting web copy, article sections and blog to your site. Update them regularly, make them appealling to your visitors, and your site will generate interest without the need to submit to directories.

    And article spinning.... don't get me started, what a load of tosh!
