Hi Guys,

I'm currently working on a project which requires me building a couple of websites. The websites are standard one page websites with a picture and written article. What would be the cheapest way to get them done and live? *ALL SUGGESTIONS WELCOME!*

Regards

    Hi GafBoy,

Well there are plenty of options for single page sites.

I'd probably recommend WordPress. You can use it to make a single static page, or have a single page blog feed.

Any decent web host will let you install it in seconds with a one click installer, and some even let you choose it when you order to have it installed for you.

Otherwise you could simply use a website builder, which again any web host will provide, or even download a template or make the page from scratch as mentioned.

A starter web hosting package would be fine for this.

Assuming you require domains as well, then it can be cost effective to get a starter package for each site as some hosts provide a free domain with each account.

    I hope that helps.

If you have any questions feel free to get in touch.

    Best of luck,

    Dan

I'd very much recommend against Wordpress for a single page static website. Your introducing totally unnecessary overhead/performance limitations with every request and have a whole framework of insecurity you will have to keep updated forver (auto-updates don't solve everything).

Sure you could use Wordpress to build the site, then save out the statics, but having live Worpdress installs for a multiple non-dynamic single page site is madness.

Cheapest? Easiest? what is your skill set? The cheapest way is to get free hosting and use a free template. but it may have adverts on it.

if you can handle ftp, then buy cheap multi domain hosting, use a simple online page builder (there are scripts available) and do it that way. The biggest expense will be the domain names.

Wordpress with a free template, slightly customized, as to not look horribly plain.

    Free hosting on a subdomain.wordpress.com

Some free plugins (beware of security threats)
    and you're set.
Good point, Wordpress.com allow domain hosting as well I think this might be the best way to go for a luddite

Hi, I really like Wordpress for blogging, but it isn't great to be honest for a static site, and can be quite restrictive if you're not intrinsically a developer. As a marketer I am always keen to get my hands dirty in site building, and I would highly recommend Webflow. Its designed specifically for static sites and uses the box model (literally placing boxes on a page and entering text/imagery). Watch a couple of the video tutorials and you'll have a basic, configurable site in no time...

You might pay a few pounds to release the code if you need to, but you'll be happy to after the time saving!

You will need an external IP and an apache webserver this can be on your machine or a VPS on the internet (bhost offer cheap vps) you would also need to use DNS I use eurodns its really very good. You setup each website in a seperate directory in the apache configuration, then use the DNS and virtual host feature to have your separate web pages. You then put in index.html in each website directory job done..

Its a bit warm in the office cant think straight so hopefully this makes sense if you need help or configs to guide please PM me.
