I have used people that offer the best price for the service I will reveive - not necessarily the cheapest.

I have also approached a few companies that are reccommended to me by people I know, but have not always used them.

I always like to see a good website for printing companies as well.

Hope this helps.

I have a couple of print companies that I work with now. They are good value, and looking back to how I chose them, clarity of their websites was also big factor. I could plug in various details of what I wanted, and get an instant quote, and they buy online at that price, and upload my artwork. An extremely transparent process.

I hate websites where you have to fill in your details before they'll send you a quote. For something as straightfoward as printing I want to be able to see what I'll be paying without having to get entangled with them, or telling them my contact information.

I think it depends on what you are spending. If its just a few hundred a year on stationary a website might be good enough. If its £100k plus a year on high end print it is worth really doing research.

Many printers lie about their capabilities. They'll sub-contract part of a job without telling you they are adding 15% to the cost. Only by knowing what their machines will do can you get the best price, service and quality.

Put the factor that I work for a print company aside, but on a personal level, I think I'd rather do lots of research, contact a few companies, get a few samples of their recent work, and I'd preferably keep all my print work with one company - as it saves going here, there and everywhere for different jobs.

There's also been some good suggestions :)

It depends on where your business is at and what factors are important. Cheap print doesn't always mean poor quality, but then expensive print doesn't always mean great quality. It also depends what the priority is for a particular project.

I would request a sample pack from several printers, so you can compare and ensure you are asking for prices on the correct products and also ask if there are cost effective alternative solutions, if the prices are outside budget.

Most printers specialise in one type of printing which if you have time to search for the best in each area then this can save money, however, finding a company which covers all may cost a little extra, but does ensure consistency and your time saved with one point of contact.

Check out the websites and confirm everything in email. When we are looking to work with other companies we always look at what their mission statement is and see if it matches our requirements. Ours mission focus is Quality, Service & Turnaround.
