What are SSL Transactions

SSL = Secure socket Layer.

SSL basically means your details being sent to the website are secured via some fancy stuff.

All browsers should utilise SSL as it's a necessary when using websites to pay for things, and when accessing private sites like banks.

Do you know which browser you're using?

When I log into MrSite it tells me my system does not support SSL transactions but lets me log in anyway x

If so then it is a message specific to MrSite and you need to ask them what it is all about.

If it doesn't then somehow SSL has been disabled in your browser and you need to enable it in Internet Options > Advanced Settings.

Your link did work but I thought I'd check in my settings anyway ... which box should be ticked? ... it's ticked on SSL 3.0 is that OK?

SSL3.0 should be fine but I also suggest TLS1.2 (or the highest version you have available) which can provide higher encryption on websites that support it.

MrSite might be saying that your account with them does not have SSL enabled. This may be a paid for extra option? I am not sure as no experience of MrSite just a guess.

It has TLS 1.0 checked too which appears to be the highest ... will contact Mr Site and see what they say. Thanks a lot Andy x

Just used the Mr Site on line live chat and they suggest to lower or turn off my firewall :|

I told them I'd rather not and they said "Don't worry we have over 6000 users and have never had a hacking problem".

Now I know I'm thick when it comes to this sort of thing but surely if I turn my firewall off it doesn't just affect their relationship with my PC :|

Turning off your Firewall can make your computer less secure. The better method would be for you to be able to add an exclusion rule when accessing MrSite.

Or for them to provide the specific reason as to why this is necessary. For instance they may be using a non-standard SSL port which is being blocked by your Firewall.

If it is not SSL encrypted then it is possible for a nasty person to snoop on all the data being sent between your computer and MrSite (including your password).

Just don't login using public wifi or at an internet cafe to reduce the risk of this happening.

Make sure your home/office wifi network is secure with WPA.

If this is the case then make sure you have a unique password for MrSite.
