The pro is an OEM version where as the standard edition is a boxed/ non-OEM package.

Generally with OEM you get no after sale support from the manufacturer and can only be sold with hardware (though the definition of hardware varies from a complete PC to a mouse between retailers). The original idea of OEM was the likes of Jo Blogs PC builder could buy the OEM copies to install on the PCs they built/ sold and they would provide the warrenty on them/ support etc - trade the lower price now for the potential of having to deal with faults in the future rather than just telling them to phone microsoft.

ps. you also dont get a paper manual or box with OEM
