Hi,

On my website, I am wanting to recommend other services, on area pages.

Can I put a companies name, number and domain without there permission?

Basically I am giving them free advertising. But hoping to help my customers.

Ben.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way, but why would you want to recommend companies to your customers who you don't have any relationship with? I get your customers may need a service in an area you can't cover, but why would you recommend a company who you don't know? Is that not really risky to your own reputation? I presume you don't know them because you're talking about listing their details without their knowledge.

On the other hand, if you think about all those various business directories etc, they just scrape data, I don't think there is any real legal issue, but I'm no expert, so don't take it as gospel!

I can see where you are going with it from that sense, maybe I'm just in a grumpy mood, but to me the risk of recommending businesses I've never dealt with would be too high for some potential future leads. I would at least start off with well reputed businesses if you're going down this route, just to cover your own back really.

Instead of linking to companies on your website. Why dont you put how to's like an information page. Then put if you require any further assistance contact us. When you have the lead just outsource it to another company. Then the other company will start giving you leads and it works both ways...if they dont build a recipricol relationship with some other company..

Just an idea !

I think what you should look to do is build your website up with good content and maybe a number of blogs that include references to the companies you are looking to endorse and build links with? Then share the blog with the businesses so they are aware of your company. These are known as flattery blogs and are often used as a way of businesses trying to curry favour. Don't try flattering massive companies though, chances are they probably already know how good they are and won't respond!

You can link to whoever you want to on your own website, but I'd agree that you should not be seen to be 'recommending' without having some sort of relationship/experience with them first.

If it's just a list of 'useful links' that's fine, that's not actively recommending each supplier, it's just giving them somewhere to start looking for services and the rest is up to them.
