Website layout Centre or Left hand side?

I was just wondering if it makes any difference if a website is displayed on the left hand side of the screen or placed in the centre.

As a widescreen owner, I prefer the site to be centred if it is only going to fill a set pixal width - on my desktop with a regular screen it doesnt make much difference.

My laptop screen resolution is 1280 x 768 so I vote centre.

I like it on the left since I read left ot right, and if it's good enough for the bbc.co.uk/news it's good enough for me.

However I prefer it to fit my screen.

Having a widescreen laptop centered is best with a fixed width I think.

Generally, i think i prefer centred, but i do think it depends on the design and some seem to lend themselves better to be aligned to the left.

However, one thing i will say is that i can stand sites which set the width to 100%, unless their shops or forums, but even then, it's not always necessary. Especially if sites don't have the content to justify it.
For some reason, to me, setting the width to 100% seems to take out any design style/flair from a website's look.

Anyone else think this, or just me?

I think left aligned has mostly to do with default browser size but since most people are aware thay can click on that square at the top of the window maybe centred is best. However, I've noticed that informational, news type sites seem to lend themselves well to left alignment.

I prefair centre but my web design app won't let me. I'ts stuck there till I have time to learn a better app.
