Evening all

I'm on the verge of buying some web hosting for developing my site, can anyone recommend a reliable UK web host that is easily contactable in the event of any issues. Also, I purchased my domain name with one of the popular domain registrar sites, I take it I don't have to purchase the hosting with this site?

Thanks

Hi - that's right, you can point your domain towards any hosting company - whoever you choose will be able to advise you on that

Take your time - read reviews on sites like Trustpilot

Avoid the larger companies like 1+1 and Go Daddy etc as you won't get a high standard of support.

Go for Cpanel hosting service as its quit easy to handle , can you also specify your website requirement in terms of webspace, bandwidth etc? That's true you can keep hosting with different provider other than your domain registrar if you wish to.

5quidhost and LCN, although I prefer fivequid, great reviews really good support and they do go above and beyond on helping on things like moving website, form help, etc and good price for uk hosting, you can also host unlimited websites with unlimited bandwith.

Surely it depends on what you want from your website? You can get hosting cheaply if you know what your doing and how to set everything up and have the time to do so? Alternatively have you considered outsourcing it to a web designer/developer?

We include everything you'd need for your website for example, we set up all the metrics domain hosting and everything else. so don't just go for cheap hosting to get a website up straight away.

At the end of the day your website is your online shop window, it's worth as much as a store front for many business's.

As for hosting the suggestions above are very good, but just be sure to make the right decision for your business.

I'd avoid GoDaddy - support is quite poor and they don't seem to handle Wordpress well.

Support wise, HostGator have been brilliant for me, and performance wise is really good too. If you're after a cheap and cheerful solution try one.com!

It seems that webspace and bandwidth aren't all you need to keep an eye on. My site is currently being throttled back due to hitting the limits on available memory which it shouldn't be as it's a not too complicated 150 page Wordpress site.

Honestly, I would go with a medium sized company unless you find a specialist company who will be able to give you great support. I wouldn't recommend really big companies, like GoDaddy because they are known for terrible support.

The company I have used in the past and recommend is EZPZHosting which is based in the UK and has excellent support. On the homepage, it gives you the average waiting time for a support ticket response and at the time of writing this, it is at 6 minutes and they are very helpful, or at least have been for me. Good for a company which has been online since 2007 I believe.

Check EZPZ's reputation on WebHostingTalk. It isn't good. They also don't list any company details, not good for a 'company' that has been around since 2007?

I am just recommending them from my experience with them which was a good one. Everyone has different experiences but I am just going from what I know. They have many positive reviews but they also have many negative reviews so I guess it depends on the person.

My point is that when the bad outweigh the good, it's probably worth moving onto the next host to consider.

There's plenty of good ones out there - TSOHost for example.

I know this is an old post but coming from a neutral point of view regarding hosting anyone looking for hosting needs to sit down and clearly set out the goals of their website. Understanding what you want to achieve with your website over a time frame will help you will spell out your hosting requirements.

I normally sit down with new clients and ask them how they see their website in 6-12 months. This includes visitor numbers, sales, enquires etc... Once we have a clear objective and set of goals we then recommend what hosting specification they require.

The majority of new clients 90% of the time quote the prices they have seen from various companies, "but its only £3.95 a month, why are you suggesting we spend £24.99 a month?". Your website is the shop front of your business, take it seriously. The majority of companies spend more on stationary than hosting and wonder why their website takes over 1 minute to load, or why they are not appearing in the SERPS.

So if someone in MAWUK position is reading this please plan out what your want from your website and then speak to a tech team and they should instantly know what you require.
