Hi I built a very simple website through google a couple of years ago and got the exact domain that i wanted <removed>. It is a incredibly simple lay out and thought that I would be able to change it later using a better website builder but there does not seem to be any way of doing this apart from altering the contents of the pages. Not the lay out or even the colours on the site. The other and probably main problem is i don't know who owns the domain I don't ever remember paying anything for it and cant seem to work out how to take it with me to another site builder. So i guess my question is do I or google own it and if they do can i buy it from them so i can get a better site. I hope this makes sense thanks Toby

Having just done a lookup on your domain it looks like you registered the domain through GBBO (Get British Business Online) which was a scheme designed to get small businesses online by giving a domain and a web builder for free.

The scheme was partnered with google and it was their web builder that you used.

It is actually quite straight forward to move the domain away, all you will need to do is find another web host (plenty on UKBF, including us) and setup some web hosting with them.

You will then be able to go to https://gbbo.myportalexpress.com and request that they change the IPS Tag on the domain to that of the new provider.

Make sure you pick a quality web host that will help you along and not lock you into expensive domain contracts.

As for replacing the site, lots of people will have different views on this but using Wordpress on your hosting is not a bad place to start.

I hope this is of some help.
