website help

Hi, I am looking to create a site similar to whocallsme, where people can place their own views on particular subjects and companies.

Does anybody know any software I can use to upload to a domain so I can create this, or would I need to hire a webdesigner?

I think I posted this in the wrong section originally.

If you want to learn, do it yourself.

If you don't or if you want to be online fast, use a designer who uses CMS's such as Wordpress or Joomla. A CMS will be of use if you want the website to expand over time.

As for cost, you'll pay anything from a few hundred to a few grand, it all depends on what you want, how complex it is to deliver, your budget and the designers rate.

I don't think this would cost you too much for a bespoke bit of software that will allow people to register / add numbers who are calling them and allow people to reply to it with comments about who it is calling them etc.

I have done a fair bit of work on this niche before, it is very popular so good luck with it.

From a developer and designer perspective this is not a complex site, although it may be beyond a first project for most.

Basically you have a database wich people are putting information into, and a search facility to get the information out again. You then want some management of the information to stop spammers, ensure the comments are OK vocab wise for the public (ie a bad word filter) etc. You might also want it to send e-mails to past contributors.

We have built a few site that do this type of thing in different ways if you need some help.
