Have you ever work for a website company? Are you brilliant at marketing? That’s more important than any of the services you want to provide.

For example you can outsource all the services leaving you the main job of finding new clients. Which is all about marketing.

Website companies covers, of course, a multitude of sins - as you imply from your having made a list of services.

And doing the market research will very much be dependant on where you are going to pitch yourself on the immense scale of £1m plus mega complex online projects to £99 for setting up a basic template site. Or less.

It is a very congested bit of the SME sector.

However, if you want to start testing the market I would start doing some provisionally reaching out - your local business pages on social media, a bit of networking, asking around.

Your biggest challenge is going to be this. Mostly people that want a website have one, and have a provider. You have to be able to out market those existing providers. On the face of it, that might not be so much of a challenge, but in reality it is. So probably a big starting point for you is that. How do you plan to achieve that?

Not going to repeat the above aside from the warning about the competitive nature of the industry you are considering but I will ask the question, why you?

    Try answering these questions...

    1. Why should I consider using you?
    2. What makes you different from the other 1,000,000,000,1 designers out there?
    3. Do you have a niche, an area that is underdeveloped?
    4. Is this to pay the bills or just a side hustle?

If you cannot answer these basic questions in a convincing way, then maybe pivot or look at the gaps and work out how to fill them.

I started a web design firm just over 21 years ago and built a hosting business alongside it. Six months later, I was doing more hosting than designing so I should have saved myself 6 months' effort by better understanding where my target market was.
