Does anyone know of a good "create your own website" company.

I have my own domain name already, but I want a site that I can use for affiliate based products. Almost like a shop, but none of the stock will be mine.

I am not very good on computers so no overly technical terms please, and I don't want any web designers offering services thanks. I like to do things myself.

Not very good with computers, yet you're going to be capable of creating a functional, professional website?

No offence ABalawajder, but this is just a little bug bear of mine that everyone and their dog seems to think they can make a website, or a friend of a friends uncle can do it. Why is this?

There is much more to building a professional, functional, successful website than meets the eye. It really isn't just about making pretty pictures.

User experience, user interaction, call-to-actions, browser compatibility and even human psychology play a part in a well built website.

Would you tell your builder to just drop the bricks at your would-be-house and try building it yourself because you like to do things yourself?

I think not.

This isn't directed at you ABalawajder, more of a general assault on a long-standing misconception.

Cheers.

I am an IT consultant with a first class Hons degree in Computer Science, 4 years experience in enterprise- grade Solaris- based deployments in the telecoms industry, and a list of 'IT abilities' as long as my arm, so I am pretty technical....

However, I am still outsourcing the visual design of my website, because eventhough I have the technical know- how to build it, (So by your own metrics, I am qualified to do it) there is a never a chance in hell I would be able to build an SEO friendly, cross- browser compliant site that actually WORKS to sell things (There is much more than being technical (or not) as someone else said).

Sorry but you have no chance... Don't be cheap, just hire someone who has the skillset to do the job properly.

If your business isn't worth chucking a grand or so at to get a decent website, and graphics, back end tools (It doesn't have to cost that much...) at, I wouldn't bother to be honest.

Along the same lines as Wordpress is Joomla; another free, easy to use content management system. If you need a simple way to create an ecommerce site it's perfect. It has professional templates as well, so you don't have to worry about paying a lot of money and you will have total control!

Hope this helps!

I spent ages trying to find a UK based ecommerce web host where I could manipulate the template to suit my own needs and look. I had to use a US based firm called pappashop to host and for a template. I've changed the template many times to find my identity...I think I have it now. I use malsecart for my ecommerce using Paypal and google checkout.

There really is a lack of feminine, easy to use, easy to change website hosters for the sole trader in the UK...why? I believe that many more individuals will be using the web to sell their own unique product...someone in the UK should be looking at this...may be I should do it myself;)

and it only costs me £8 a month !!!
