Web site

I am thinking of setting up an outdoor web site sellling climbing equipment, and i know there are alot of others out there doing the same thing but, just woundered what thoughts other people might have if this is a good or bad idea.

i think i know of somewhere you can advertise online that is viewed by thousands of mountain climbers and walkers if you're interested in developing your idea. not sure on price as its not my website but they get quite a lot of hits..quite a few hundred a day already...might be worth you advertising on there once your website is ready.

well i would streets but they don't normally do advertising...they are purely for walkers/climbers and have a little online community going...i'll have to ask them first! they dont make any money from it as they're retired but i may put it to them as an option..aslong as the advertising is relevant to climbing ofcourse.

Hi Paw;

The first thing you should do is find out if your business website plan is viable.

You should do a keyword search on climbing equipment to what keywords have the highest demand and lowest supply. If there are already dozens of high page rank/ high alexa rank websites in the google top ten for "climbing equipment". Then you know that keyword is too competitive.

Move on to the next highest demand keyword and test it in the same manner until you find niches that are being addressed. These niches will allow you to get your foot in the door so to speak

Keyword research may be important, but first of all do some competitor analysis.

Are there things they do which you could do better?
Could you offer better prices?
Could you offer something different?
Can you get decent suppliers with small order volumes or do you need to risk a lot of cash first?

Also look at your competitors accounts if available. Pick a top 5 or 10 competitors and look at what they spend on ppc and see if you could compete. How much does it cost to be on the 1st page for your chosen phrases, could you make it work at a 0.5% conversion?
