Web domain names question

Two questions

1.

The domain name I want is very general but most forms of it have already been registered and taken.

It's made up of two words. For example landscapeartists.co.uk

If I were to change the words around to say artistslandscape.co.uk would this phrase be just as effective in a google search?

2.
I've been told that if I buy a place specific domain name eg. landscapeartistsglasgow.co.uk and then set this up to a one page website it will feature high in that specific search rather than use adwords. On that one page site then link to my main website.
This seems like a lot of work and the seo would be new and not a lot on the one page site.
Would appreciate opinions. Would I just be better off paying for adwords as and when I want to use them.

If you really want to have 'Glasgow' in your domain name for marketing purposes that's fine - but generally keywords in the domain name don't matter as much anymore than they use to

I've ranked websites no 1 in the search results for both for local and national keywords with a 'plain domain' name that has no reference to the town / city in question.

You should look at the services you provide and look for the most popular search terms that your customers search for these services. The best keywords are the least competitive that have a high search volume.

You should target each keyword on separate pages like this:
website name and then / treecuttingservice
and then
website name and then / gardenmaintenance
and
/gardendesign

Then you can write all about that service on each page. Extra points if you put your keyword(s) about that particular service in the titles on those pages.

I hope that makes sense?

also, I've just though landscape artist could be painting? So....its already not clear to me, so this will dilute everything. Landscapedesigner or landscapepainter
If you put landscape artist into google, it will show related searches at the bottom of the page. You should use those keywords somewhere on your website if they are relevant.

Good luck
