Web designers, marketing and B2B service businesses niche

Hi guys and girls!

I'm wondering if any of you who are web designers, marketers and B2B web service providers, have decided to go down the route of only catering for just 1 niche please?

We offer quite a few web services and we feel that if we cut down on what we offer, its not going to make the business viable because we would lose out on custom.

So the idea is to offer everything we do but to 1 industry only which we know very well because we've been there and done it as a business. We would offer the customer everything they would need to get started, become successful as we did franchise previously before we sold the business. Others are doing this so there is a market.

Have any of you gone done this route and succeeded/failed? Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks

Hi Louisa,

We have gone down the route of specialising in one particular niche market sector in the past and depending on your chosen niche this can work out quite well as you can rightly claim to be an 'expert' in that particular sector. A lot of will depend upon the size and potential of your chosen sector.

One thing that you will have to consider is that as you develop and grow, the people that you employ may well come from different market sectors, bringing in their own areas of expertise. So, would you then restrict your employment of personnel to your chosen sector (which may/may not be limiting) or would you expand your service sectors to allow for the new intake of expertise? Which of course will lead you back to your original starting point!

If the niche has been growing steadily for the past 10 years then I would say definitely go for it.

The sector that we work in is pretty huge if albeit a bit too fiercely competitive. We continue to do pretty well in it but have since expanded into other market sectors purely through organic growth.

Good luck with your niche!
