Hi,

I have been working for a bathroom company based in Rotherham for the last 6 months and since extending the showroom we are now in a position to have a new website built. With this being my first posting I cannot put a link to show our current website and an example of how we want our new website but I will send the links if anyone pm's me. We are basically looking for a website in which you cannot order online but which there is an email form for callbacks or our telephone number to place orders. Due to the nature of our business it is more important to talk to customers before they purchase to clarify what they are looking for. We are just looking for somebody to design the website and make it so that I can add all the items and images as an ongoing process.

Also I was wondering if anybody had any novel ideas of advertising for a bathroom and tile company? 95% of our customers come from recommendations but we do also advertise in the local paper, do targeted mail drops and have associations with other companies.

Thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I haven't seen your website of course but what you are asking for sounds fairly straightforward. I will leave the web experts to explain more about this side of things!

As for advertising, do a search on the forums as there are a lot of general posts which provide great ideas for basic advertising (for example social media such as Facebook and Twitter, PR in the local paper (rather than advertising which I know you already do) and online advertising are some examples. You can also try to establish yourself as an expert in your field by finding interior design websites and forums where you might be able to contribute. Don't forget that people trust businesses that have visible people behind them - so establish yourself as the man (or woman) behind your business.

Also think about more creative ways to get people to remember your business, this is just off the top of my head but could you get mini tiles made with your logo and address details on them? Could they be handed out local events or in your local town centre, could you even make a tiled wall feature somewhere which would provide a talking point for members of the community (obviously include your business name so people know where to go)!

Good luck

Assume the site is the one set as your homepage in your profile.

There are certainly a lot of options available to you on the web side of things depending on both what do you want now (eg, do you want to be able to update it yourselves?) and what your future goals are (eg you say no ecommerce, but possibly in the future?)

Most web designers/ developers would be able to complete the project for you and so it is predominately a case of finding an organisation that you like their portfolio and feel are reliable.

If 95% of new customers come from recommendations that either means (a) your other advertising isn't working very well as it only accounts for 5% of new business, or (b) you're a well-regarded local company with a good reputation. Or more likely - both.

Sort out (a) by having an expert look at your print ads to make them more compelling. There are a few graphics/sales/copywriting experts on UKBF.

If (b) is true then you really should capture feedback from happy clients to display on your website - people looking at it, who've probably just Googled "bathrooms in Rotherham or something similar, won't know about your great reputation. Make sure they do. You've worked hard to build it - don't hide it! Genuine testimonials build confidence that you're worth dealing with.
