I have been researching the market in yorkshire and it looks very busy and hard to break through with many firms having contracts with some of the worlds biggest companies. our web designers are good and could create the type of websites that are being designed for probably a fraction of the price. but its getting them contracts which will be the hard thing.

we may be moing to wetherby from middlesbrough in january and im not too confident that there will be too much money to be made.

what advice can you give me.

cheers

that is our aim to market nationally but its getting the first big contracts. we have had some such as www.iasuite.com and theres on similar were developing called ipro but the market in middlesbrough is open for a local company to come in and i feel we can do that.

could you give me an opinion on our website and tell me if it looks good and what you may change. i think it looks a bit too corporate.

thanks

Hi James,

Are there any networking groups in Yorkshire you could join? As well as the company in my signature, my partner and I also run a web design business here in Scotland: we found that focusing on the local market at first was the best way forward for us, and eventually led on to business elsewhere.

To start with, most of our business came via word of mouth, which is why I mention networking. Maybe think about joining the local Chamber of Commerce, or going along to any small business groups in the area?

so how do i go about this?

Business link could be a good place to start, local Chamber of Commerce.

Skillswap I'd not heard of but I'm taking at look at now. This will be my first Wired Sussex event so I'll let you know. My problem is that I don't really like marketing/networking media events. Though the freebies can be good.
