I've been working with a few clients recently building websites, and was thinking of turning it into more of a peremenant thing. Was just wondering, where would you guys suggest i advertise? What ways have been the most successful for you?

Business Forums are always a good place to start.

You need to have a protfolio site showing your work. I wouldn't employ someone without examples and recommendations. If your any good word of mouth will be your best marketing.

I second that.

Over the last 5 years or so, web design and development has become an extremely competitive industry, mainly due to the incredibly low barrier to entry and an increasing number of people in the world having the skills required to design and build sites.

Because of this, any advertising will have to be extremely well thought through and most web design firms find it difficult to run ad campaigns that produce a positive ROI.

Building a good portfolio and getting clients based on recommendations / word of mouth marketing is possibly your best bet, especially while you're still new.

Once you have some decent experience and a glowing portfolio to show you can begin thinking about marketing externally.
