Web and email hosting?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone might mind sharing a positive experience or two.

I'm a newbie, both on this forum & to the wonderful world of starting out; a great experience thus far. However, I've hit my first hurdle.

I'm currently using Zoho for my emails (as it's free, basically) but I'm starting to realise that you get what you pay for. Already my primary account won't send any more emails as I've reached a limit, and a proposal I sent out last week never even got to its intended recipient, probably due to the attachments. I can't crack on like this.

So I've had a look at Googles G-suite and also Go Daddy's recommended option, but it's not making much sense. Therefore I was wondering if any of you have been in the same boat as me and can let me know what's worked for you, or perhaps you might be running a business that provides the services I seek?

What I'm after is basically:
  • No more than 4-5 email accounts (3 currently).
  • The ability to do mass mail-merges to approx 1500 addresses per month.
  • The functionality to send small attachments without a problem.
  • I won't need too much storage either.
I'm also happy to look at including my web hosting if the right solution prevents itself.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to any responses. Have a nice weekend.

Hi, you could have a look at Sendgrid, Mailchimp or Constant Contact, these guys are the leaders in the field of email marketing with tracking etc but they don;t have a CRM like Zoho so it really depends if you need a CRM system.

If you have outlook you can use sendgrid for your day to day emails and continue to use Zoho for you mass emails or use sendgrid for both day to day and email marketing...

Not sure that answers your question but I am sure others will drop their 2 pennies in

Good luck!

Thanks Jay, that does help. Not heard of Sendgrid before so I've just given their site a quick once-over. Looks like about a fiver a month after conversion which is affordable. Of course I'll wait & see if I get any other suggestions but I'm tempted to give their 30 day free trial a go and see how I get on with it.

For shared hosting it's generally standard to offer website & email as one package, so you could save money if you combine the two. Small attachments should not be an issue and as you don't need much storage, you can look for cheaper plans with less storage.

The one thing to look out for on shared servers is that there's usually an hourly (60 rolling minute period) send limit (eg on our servers it ranges from 500 to 2000 depending on the hosting plan), so check this first and make sure you can send within the limits eg by batch sending larger mail outs (x emails every y seconds).

And you will need some kind of mail programme to do the actual sending / email writing. If you google for bulk email software, you'll find options eg SendBlaster (although I'm not sure how well that works these days) with the actual sending done via your host's SMTP mail server.

On the mail marketing front, MailChimp is a good one, but they tend to be picky about how you collected the email addresses. Uploading a new mail list for the first time can be tricky, once that's done it's easier to add new sign ups from eg a website directly to MailChimp (they provide sign up forms). Then within MailChimp it's easy to design new emails / use templates to do a mailout.

Do you need a mailing list solution such as MailChimp -- is this a mass newsletter? Or individual emails going out
