Anyone know of any cheap / free tools to get full read / write access to a microsoft access database through a web browser? The developer is a whizz at access but not at asp / php / html etc so a tool would be better than scripting etc.

Thanks,

Rupert

Hi Rupert,

How cheap is cheap?

I don't know of any free tools to gain web access to databases.

What exactly do you want to do with the access database? Does it hold products that you want listing on a website? Do you need private access to updating it or can web visitors do this by filling in a form for example?

If you want post here or email me more info and I would be happy to knock together a quick, cheap quote for a few pages, depending on what you need obviously.

I can be emailed on darren @ darrenatkinson.co.uk.

Regards,

Darren

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Cheap I guess is as cheap as possible - up to 100 quid?

It's for a driving instructure who is looking to be able to access their bookings system over the internet. So adding, removing bookings etc. Pretty simple I would think...but what do I know...

Thanks,

Rupert

What you want is fairly simple to achieve with php/ asp etc - to get a webhost that allows remote access to a database other than via php/ asp is certainly going to cost you more in the long term than a basic hosting package with a custom designed/ off the shelf booking system using the above or other technologies.

Not my area of expertise but you could go down the virtual application route. I know a company who'll host it so you can access the application via a browser or as if it's on your machine. No idea of the cost though. If you want their contact details PM me and I'll pass them on.

cheers,

Dan
