is the water rate that you pay calculated by the rateable value or by something different? roughly how much would the water/sewrage rates be on a small shop unit which only uses water to boil the kettle (say 1 pint a day) and to wash the cup the drinks been made in(!). the rateable value is 7400 if that helps. i just need a ball park figure as i'm trying to do a rough business plan at the minute.

I pay on average £15 per month if that's any help. Invoices are with the accountant so I can't tell you exactly how it's calculated, but it is water meter (little use) and drainage, rateable value must be around 6k.

Why not ask the water supplier? You'll have a much better idea from that. You might want to ask what effect having the water on a meter will make too.

This sounds like a good common sense approach except I just phoned united utilities and they refused to say until I have actually signed a lease on the property.

Could anyone give a rough idea for a small shop with just few toilet flushes and kettle fills a day? RV of properties I am looking at is around £6-8k.
