Depends how often you have it emptied. When we started we had our skips emptied once a month, but as we grew we changed this to fortnightly and now every week. With food, I would think it would be weekly at least?
Why not start small to begin with and see how it goes. Getting a dog is a good idea, my dog eats most of out leftover food. Shame for everything to go into landfill all the time
