VPS hosting service provider recommendations?

Looking for VPS provider, any suggestions?

What are your requirements? Managed or unmanaged? Do you have an idea on resources required?

If you want unmanaged my clients and I use a lot of providers between us and all are OK: Digital Ocean, Linode, Rackspace, Vultr, Upcloud....

AWS is too expensive unless you either pay in advance (and I think its quite a long contract term) and its difficult to be sure how much you pay (and its very easy to land yourself with a higher bill than you expected) or you need to constantly spin VPSs up and down or you are using RDS etc. very heavily.

What are you planning to host on the VPS? What is the project build on/with? Is it already hosted on a VPS or bare metal?
Another question is - does it *need* to go on a VPS? a lot of the time we see customers who have VPS / bare metal but really don't need it at all - it's more about getting your stack right for your website - time researching this will save you money longer term than simply throwing more resources at any problem.
