HI Ddhillon

Are you a member of any sporting or social clubs at all. A lot of sporting and social clubs have to keep accounts and from experience of being a member of a social group it is the one area that they struggle to find volunteers in, and I think this is the case in many sporting/social clubs.

Would say it is beneficial on your CV. I gained one job shortly after interview where I was going to be only one in the office most of the time, and it was because I mentioned I was treasurer of a social group, a cheque signatory of social group and in charge of the petty cash tin that the interviewer decided she could trust me with the keys and locking up correctly each day and trust me with any cash received from customers, their petty cash tin etc if members of a social group trusted me.

Hello,

To answer your questions on training etc. Ive worked in bookkeeping & payroll for many years & have decided to become self-employed. I took Level 2 computerised bookkeeping & level 3 exams this year. I also took Leve 2 & 3 in computerised payroll, I took these exams through the IAB to basically get the top fellowship member level. They also cover MLR9 regulations as well so youre covered forpayroll issues & can become an agent for HMRC.

Based on these levels of 2 & 3 you will need to know all aspects of manual payroll & manual bookkeeping (double entry). I took these courses at my local college & also the L3 payroll I self-taught at home, there are links on the IAB website for home-study. I hope this helps & good luck.

thanks a lot for advice.
i think the qualifications u have done r very relevant to bookkeeping. i have already done all 3 levels of manule bookkeeping and now learning sage to become a sage certified bookkeeper. payroll is different from normal bookkeeping. is it better to learn payroll as well to become a self employed bookkeeper? i am definitely gonna try working for someone else first but if i couldnt get an opportunity then i will no doubt jump in to become self employed .is it hard to work on ur own?
many thanks

Hello

I took my exams in June & obtaines 4 A's, I wrote to some local accountants at the same time which landed me a good job working for an accountant who does self-employeed subbys, cis tax year end work etc. Really good experience. I got more work doing it from home which is computerised sage & I also have some little companies I do vat returns for etc. I havent advertised as yet as Im also busy teaching payroll now at college but, I will look at doing this after xmas. You just have to sell yourself to them, at the end of the day if you know what youre talking about then they will have confidence in you for their preparaton of year end etc.. Good luck & let me know how you get on.. Lisa
