I have applied to voluntarily wind up a company of which I am the sole director.
After the company is fully wound up will I automatically be "resigned" from the directorship or do I need to submit a resignation form also.

I understand the concept that once it is wound up the company no longer legally exists and so I can't be a director of a company which doesn't exist, but does this happen automatically?

Exactly like you say, the company doesn't exist, so you have nothing to be a director of ;)

It will go into the London Gazette before it actually gets dissolved, then if nobody has any objections it will get wound up, but I assume you already knew this if you're doing it :)
