VOIP softphone instead of physical phone

I've used a VOIP provider for many years, and it works great.

But I've always used a VOIP phone - usually a Cisco IP phone.

I have an Android tablet with a dock, and thought it'd make more sense to have that on my desk instead of the phone as I could use it to run Todoist on as well.

As I don't receive many calls, the phone takes up a lot of space on the desk!

But I can't find any decent VOIP software to run on it.

Zoiper seems to be about the only option, and it's not great - it seems to stop running in the background regularly and doesn't have a great interface.

Are there any recommended replacements to replace my Cisco phone with software? Ideally, I'd like to get my busy lamp indicators back too.

Most providers these days will support BLF (or at least 'Presence' which is really the UC equivalent) with softphone natively, such as Cisco Broadsoft. If this isn't the case with your current provider it may be worth looking for one that is. If you're keen to spin your own solution, 3CX will likely be the best fit.
There is no issue with my provider.

I simply want to swap the physical phone for an Android app - so looking for software recommendations.

Oh I just remembered Android has a built in SIP functionality, if you go into the phone app / settings/ /advanced settings/SIP settings. You can add a SIP voip provider here to work direct in your phone app.

Depending on your provider, most platforms have apps available for mobile phones/tablets, as well as for pc/laptops, perhaps you could look into those.

Personally I still prefer a physical phone over an app, as I have different buttons configured to show the status of the other extensions in my organisation and can easily see who is on the phone, at a glance.

I don't really get the problem you have. Anyway, I don't think you should get rid of the physical phone because it can still be useful for you. For instance, I use my old phone just like a remote control for my ajax system if I don't know where's my smartphone. So I believe that you'll be able to find the use for your phone even if you decide to get a voip softphone.
