Viral Videos

Has anyone used viral videos for their marketing or do you have any thoughts on whether they are useful for SME's to use to get there name/product into peoples minds?

Large companies spend thousands of pounds on creating various videos in an attempt to get them to go viral and even then there is no way to ensure that it will become a viral video.

The problem is that if viewers think the creator is trying to make a viral video, it loses its spontaneity and therefore reduces the chance it will become viral.

I think that due to the small chance a video has of becoming viral the cost isn't justifiable for an SME, to be honest i think large companies are wasting their money trying to create viral videos, but then again it does result in some very creative ads.

I said viral a lot.

Although once again it's peoples perception and belief that they have to cost thousands.

You'd be surprised how little a high definition, professional production could cost if you approach the right people *Cough*!

Viral Video can be great but you must be carful because it can be a sucessful viral but have a negative effect on the product or service you are trying to sell.

As a basic rule try to go with something that interests your target audience enough for them to pass it on to there friends, (very difficult), avoid sexist, racist or lewd content and seed it like crazy without annoying or misleading people.

Good Luck,

You joke but you are right, striking the right balance is very difficult especially if you try to go for a funny video because without an element of schadenfreude your joke will probably be rubbish and unviral.

Try to be too PC and it won't work, go a bit edgy and you risk upsetting your target audience.

I was just talking to my old colleague from a few year back.
I was curious to find out the results for the viral campaign i did.
As pm'd to the post originator.
The campaign was just for £1000 but returned 3,500,000 click
It should have lasted a month but continued for 6 month and after that traffic still trickled in.
