video on a website and SEO

we have a website with videos on it, we use the longtail player.
We also have a you tube channel.
At the moment the two videos are uploaded individually. (mainly because we don't want the YouTube logo all over our site)

From an SEO point of view is it better to publish on YouTube then in-bed that video back into our site?

Imbedding yoiutube videos will help the original YT video to rank. it is one of the elements of the YT video ranking algo. But with regard imbedding it on your site or adding it directly, really there is no difference to speak of.

No difference really for SEO.
Although if you have lots of videos uploaded to your site instead of embedded from an external provider, and your sites video coding is slow, it will add to the 'weight' of your site which could see google penalise your page ranking as they like fast loading sites.

External embedding doesn't use your bandwidth and will load very fast if youtube so keeps your site 'light'.

Youtube embedding will also be iphone friendly, longtail may not be depending on your servers setup.

The other benefit of external hosting is as said before, you get exposure on youtube also.

At this time I personally would host it on you tube for a few reasons, but here are just a couple.

1/ you'll get a backlink (at the moment anyway) and Google is unlikely (I wont say never will) to regard that as a 'bad' backlink
2/ you use their bandwidth (may not be relevant to everyone - but could be to some - especially if you hope it goes viral)

Oh but you should - people after watching an amusing or entertaining video often go to the website that provided the content (why it is good to have your link involved).
The more traffic you get naturally (direct) the better your page rank.

As long as your videos have either your company watermark with URL or some sort of call to action in it then embedding it via youtube is fine.

As for SEO terms, search engines still cant read certain scripts that different video players use.

So you have flash embed code, java and a few more.

Basically, dont worry, it wont make any difference, but for speed and performance best to stick with youtube

Depends what you're after...
Youtube is good for brand awareness, but the content needs to be engaging and 'findable' - there are millions of business videos on Youtube with frankly very poor viewing figures, simply because there are so many business videos on Youtube! And of course, even if found, viewers can easily be distracted by other (perhaps competitor's) videos.

Having your videos hosted 'privately' either on your own servers or via a proprietory CDN (delivery network) is also advisable as you're not driving traffic to Youtube, where you can 'lose' visitors very easily. But it only works well if you properly optimise your content - so that your video (on your site) potentially get picked up by Google and possibly appears in organic listings - which obviously can drive traffic directly to you, rather than Youtube.

So I'd do both - at the very least, keep your Youtube vids, but optimise your own site's content too.

What we are after with the video is link juice, + hopefully getting found and listed in Google broad search (think that's the right term).
I'm guessing here, Google likes video to appear in its "everything" searches, so we produce a tagged video, then share/like/repost that video across the web

...not quite sure what you mean here? Google does like video content in as much as it now returns 'blended' search results, which include video, images etc. But unless you target your search terms very carefully, i.e very specific, you'll have little chance of appearing on page 1 (which I presume is where you want to be). - There's no difference there as with text based optimisation.

Just had a brief look at your site. The videos look great, but just a few observations...
Google prefers 1 video - 1 page. It doesn't like multiple videos on the same page - leave the flash based home page videos if you want, but create a separate page (optimised as normal with good surrounding text) for each video.
You need to title the pages at the very least (your home page appears to have no title). I'll defer to the seo experts on here but I'm pretty sure that having good keyword relative page titles is a fairly basic starter for any page /site optimisation.

On a personal level, I would at least give some indication of cost, perhaps prices from £xxx for example. As a visitor I would like to know whether even making contact with you is worth my trouble or yours.

thanks for the review and yes that site needs to change, its more of a holding page while we sort out our "brand and website" I find self promotion near imposable to do and we will end up getting someone else to do it.

The site is openlearninghub co uk and we only need to rank for one keyword "gr@en deal advisor training"

I thought you were talking about optimising your own site's content??
It might be advisable for the openhub to do this for themselves then(optimise the video on their page, that is). It's difficult for you to do if you don't have access to their site.....
