4 months of tending and looking after result - About a £2's worth of onions

My courgettes are brilliant, got 3 plants though and having courgette with everything at the moment.

Courgettes cut in half sprinkled with cumin powder, cardamom pods, olive oil in oven for 20 minutes then finished off under the grill with cheese on top - lovely

You need to find what grows best in your garden. We have no luck with onions but potatoes, courgettes, tomato’s, peppers, cucumbers and peas deliver good crops.

I've never understood why people bother growing stuff like potatoes that can be easily and cheaply purchased at any time.

Surely if you're going to grow something, grow something challenging and difficult or expensive to buy. Chirimoya or Saffron or something?

I might need to build up to that.

Love my home-grown potatoes though (grown in a builder's Tonne bag)

I love the idea of picking stuff up for nothing and tuning it into growing environment.

My wife then likes to spend money on making it all linear and smart.

Like most hobby businesses, it's financially viable if you ignore the real costs.

I like tempura, but don't do deep-frying at home.

Lightly fried in breadcrumbs & parmesan is good, too..

I must try that as I bought a kilo of panko breadcrumbs and need to find something to do with them

There are some very key factors that will influence the answer to this question.

1. You. If you know what you are doing, or put in the research, doing it right can make a difference.

2. Space. No much point in growing £1.87 worth of radishes in a window box, other than for the satisfaction.

3. Soil. Some areas are great. Others not so much, and it can cost a LOT to turn poor soil into clay. My garden is a combo of clay and stones.

4. Location. I live in the north, and I live 650 feet above sea level. I get a growing season of about a minute.

Growing your own veg is a lost cause if you look only at £,s,p.
I have a veg plot and get lots of satisfaction from eating my own produce. it occupies time now that I've cut down drastically. I can also grow produce that is not available here but I've grown up with them. Gem Squash and Rosetta. Love them.??
