VAT - Registered Address Change

Hi,

I'm just about to move into a new unit and need to change my VAT registered address however when I go on to the HMRC website I can change my Payroll address however when I try to change the VAT registered address the option shows on the screen but in black and that's because there is no hyperlink for it. I updated by payroll address last week and that change is now showing on my account and I'd hoped it would update the VAT as well as the option wasn't there however it hasn't. I've found form VAT484 which seems to allow this however I have to print the off and send it to them by snail mail. Is there really no online way to do this change?

You need to register for the change of VAT registration details service. This will need an activation code which will be sent to your current address. If there’s no time for this then you’ll have to do it by snail mail.

Make sure you’ve also changed your business correspondence address as IIRC this is separate to your VAT and employer address record.

Thanks. I can't find where to apply for that though I do already have two accounts with HMRC. One for Self Assessment and one for VAT & PAYE. As I say I could change the business address and contact numbers of the PAYE but couldn't change the address for VAT though could change the contact numbers and email.

The old address is my house address so not so bothered about the communications address. More concerned about the VAT as I wish to update my address on my invoices so that returns get directed to the new unit. I don't want to change that until my VAT cert is updated with the new address otherwise I'll just get queries over the mismatch.

I've completed the change form and I'll send it off tomorrow. Just a pity I couldn't do this online.

It can definitely be done online once you’ve enrolled for the service. You’ll need to sign into your gateway account that has your VAT a registration on it.

Unfortunately it's not available for me for whatever reason. I've take a screenshot of this which is shown below:



As you can see the Principal Place of Business address is not selectable. No idea why this isn't available.
